Since adding self checkouts the store is much better in terms of wait times. Product selection is alright, though the bakery section is a bit lacking, and the quality of the produce is a real mixed bag.

This is my go-to Food Basics because the cashiers and employees are usually so sweet and helpful. However, just a hour and a half ago, I had a really upsetting experience with the employee/cashier at self-checkout. I'm not very tech-savvy and had to use self-checkout since the regular checkout line was slow. The self-checkout scale had issues a couple of times, and this employee had to come over to assist. Instead of helping calmly, she was extremely rude and seemed very frustrated for no reason.
My daughter had already paid at the self-checkout, and it was a seamless and effortless process. The same lady was talking to a co-worker when my daughter was using the self-checkout line 8 minutes before. I realized I didn't have a reusable bag, so we decided to use the same reusable bag for my daughter's items, which she had already paid for (receipt and the items she paid for and the same exact items/item count of the receipt on top of the same reusable bag attached as proof). We have taught her never to steal, and she would never do such a thing. I believe this situation might have triggered the scale, which we did not intend, and apologize if it did. We didn't mean to complicate her job, but the aggressive manner in which she yelled, "Why did you take the bag out," was unexpected. My daughter is still upset, and, as someone diagnosed with anxiety, this incident has made it worse for her to cope.
The cashier is of Southeast Asian, possibly Indian descent, with a medium build and around 5'0" in height. She was wearing glasses, a Food Basics sweater, blue jeans, and white and black sneakers. She has frizzy hair.
She started yelling at me and my teen daughter, almost making her cry. This is unacceptable behavior, especially from someone whose job is to assist customers. Even other customers noticed and felt bad for us. I understand that everyone has bad days, but this level of rudeness and lack of professionalism is not okay.
I will be reporting this incident to management because no customer should be treated this way. I hope the store takes this seriously and provides better training for their employees. I’m really disappointed because I used to love shopping here, but after this incident, I am reconsidering my options. However, I will probably continue to shop here as I have no choice, but I will avoid the self-checkout and that particular cashier/employee. My daughter will not be going to this location even though she loves shopping with me; it has just been very hard for her after the incident. ??

Which boss thought of an all self serve large grocery chain store. With one cashier maybe? Insane. One scale for your groceries, constantly going off with unknown item on scale. Your poor workers manning those stations. Where are the tellers cheap boss? Your auto check out is so much slower and only works if you are buying a few items like No Frills at Don Mills and Finch. Crazy crazy revamp of your store. Have you become a grocery store and want us to buy one or two items only from you. No thanks. No Frills always going forward until you bring back the cashiers.

Not the greatest for fresh food quality, veggies are sometimes rotten in the packaging, watch best before dates.
Found fresh meat packaging leaking.
Brands carried are second and 3rd tier. (Compliments brand)
Also found aisles not well sorted, chinese and indian sauces and condiments basically on a variety store type display in the corner of the store, mexican, italian in the main aisle. If it's an emergency I'd go but I wouldn't shop there on a regular basis. Pricing reasonable.
