My wife and I visited this evening to pickup an Osprey Poco bag that we had researched on online before arriving. We knew we were getting either the Poco (Standard) or Poco LT but wanted to quickly try them each on in store before we purchased. When we arrived, a friendly seemingly security guard let us know the store would be closing in 15min, we thanked him and proceeded to find the section with the bags we wanted on the second floor. He seemingly followed us there and reminded us again that the store would closing in 9min. This seemed odd but we moved on. Peter, a MEC employee was then helping us with the bags. We quickly decided on the Poco Standard. As we were talking to Peter, the same third-party security guard interjected a third time to say the store was almost closed. At this point, even Peter seemed surprised and we said we would abandon the purchase and leave the store. The security guard said his name was Asharaj (sp?). We stopped and let Alicia, another MEC staffer, know why we were leaving without making the purchase.
I've had a strong impression of the MEC brand up until this point, so I was very disappointed with that this third-party guard felt the need to shoo customers out of the store before closing.

I just updated my ratings to 5. Why?
First, as a general comment im very please MEC is canadian again.
About this store, the store is clean, organized, and well structured.
Some of the staff are pretty young and shy so they may not initiate the conversation, but you shouldn't hold it against them. If you need something just ask and they will be helpful.
Third, the vintage mec products and colour's are back which is amazing.
Overall, they are doing well.

Wanted shoes for a fall trip combining city activities and some moderate mountain hikes. The footwear specialist (Dave?) could not have been more helpful. He made great suggestions, steered me away from a sleek but unsuitable option and took me through a sizing test on a mini slope. When the model, colourway and size we decided on wasn’t in stock in Gortex he suggested I buy online at the manufacturer rather than take the in-stock non-gortex pair due to the potential harsh weather conditions at my destination. While I would’ve preferred to purchase or order through MEC, I was blown away by his exceptional customer service and will be back, as usual, for my other outdoor needs!

This turbaned security guard at Mec don’t know what professionalism means just started following me because I was wearing mask and a hood? Are you really profiling people? If you are doing this just hire Tps instead of a guard!! Safety is okay but this was too much.

Well stocked. Not too busy and has a public washroom for members. Most of the goods you find on the website could be found here. There was a broad selection of items across the board and the staff was super helpful

MEC has always been cognizant of accessibility needs of their customers.
I've been shopping at MEC for 30+ yrs.
Accessibility features at this location include:
1. Automatic door opener button.
2. Large elevator that easily accommodates any size wheelchairs.
3. Dressing rooms with plenty of space to turn around and mirrors positioned so a person in a wheelchair can easily see their whole body.
4. Accessible washrooms.
5. Aisles are broad with plenty of space for wheelchairs.
6. The line at the check out is wide enough to easily accomodation wheelchairs.
I love the fact that I can leisurely browse throughout the store, without encountering staff repeatedly asking if they can suggest so.ething for me.
I mostly purchase clothes for my grandchildren. The MEC brand has good quality materials and workmanship. Making it economical to find clothes that will last longer than the child fits them.
Infact, we still have a snowsuit purchased 30 years ago for my sister. Since then, both of my kids wore it, my cousins 2 kids wore it, then my sisters kids wore it and finally my grandchildren wore it.
Over those 30 years, 9 children wore the MEC brand snowsuit purchased in the 90s.
It went back to MEC for repairs three times.
This is truly sustainable clothing.
Im especially thankful MEC now carries winterwear by Reima, the Finnish children's clothing brand.
Adding another exceptionally well made clothing line to their collection.
Anyone interested in sustainability over fast fashion, MEC is the place to start, especially for children's clothing.
The staff are always available to assist if needed, while not being over bearing.
MEC is the first (& often only) place I look forward clothing for my grandchildren.
