Their website issued me a free guest pass and neglected to mention they are closed for several days for Labor Day. Got the baby ready. Drove half an hour to get here. And they are closed. Why is this information kept secret? Waste my time and gas!

When we saw the advertisement for the free learn to swim week, we were very excited and immediately signed up. While I would have loved to get my 3 and 5 year old in classes when they were younger, Covid, financial constraints and frequent moving around prevented us from being able to do so. This event was advertised as being intended for kids with little to no swimming skills. My children love the water, but aside from floating around with us or in life jackets, they do not yet know much else about swimming. We planned to sign them up for paid lessons later on this year, and thought this would be a good opportunity to get them used to the pool beforehand in a setting where they could be in the same group together with me nearby. I was wrong.
At the beginning of the class, both of my children felt scared and hesitant to enter the pool. I was trying to speak with them about what they could expect, and encourage them to try. Typically, they need a few minutes to warm up, and then will join in as they are both quite shy. As I was talking to them, the aquatics director came up beside me, grabbed my 3 year old and ran into the pool with her without saying a word to me or to her beforehand. My 3 year old was hysterical and screaming for me, and the instructor continued to float her around the pool with her, ignoring her screams. When she finally got close enough for me to ask her to give my child back, she lectured me about how if I didn't force them to learn now, it would only get harder for them to learn as they got older. My 3 year old was hyperventilating and terrified at this point, so I took her aside and helped her calm down.
Despite being scared, I was able to convince my 3 year old to return to the side of the pool. She sat with her feet in the water, watching the other children float around with instructors. I talked to her about what the other kids were doing and how she could float like that also, and she was warming up to the idea. My 5 year old, at this point, was seated on a bench. He refused to come near the pool, as he was worried someone would yank him in without his consent like they had done to his sister. I turned to try and encourage him to join us, and in that moment another, different instructor came up and tried to pull my 3 year old into the pool again. I had to grab my daughters arm and pull her back out, and told the instructor that they needed to stop and were only making her more scared.
Nobody once asked my child if she was okay being grabbed, pulled in, carried in. Nobody once asked ME if they could take her in. Both times, they just came up and grabbed her without saying a word. Because of their actions, my daughter is terrified and does not want to return. I'm certain she would have willingly participated in lessons if they'd just given her a few minutes vs forcing her that way and scaring her. Now she is traumatized, and any future lessons we try to take will likely not be as well received by her.
I am extremely disappointed that an event geared toward teaching young children to swim and "helping them get comfortable in the water" provided instructors who clearly do not respect kids' bodily autonomy, and do not know how to work with shy or nervous children. My kids were excited for lessons, and now I will be lucky if I can get them to participate in any sort of swim class again. This was my first time at the YMCA and a horrid experience. I left in tears, and certainly won't return for the remainder of the week. We were planning to enroll in the homeschool swim & gym this fall as well, and I'm now second guessing it.

Everything is fine, I guess, but the weight room has a lot of ridiculous very excessive grunters, weight droppers, and people who refuse to rerack their weights. That's more of an etiquette problem of the clients rather than the Y itself, though.
My main issue is the wifi in the gym is horrendous. It didn't used to be this way, but now I can only rarely connect to it. I wish they'd get a new router.

Open your hot tub! When asked at all, your hot tub is always closed. I’d really like it to be open more, or at least a consistent schedule on when it is open. Or I won’t be back

Love all the changes and how nice the turf area is for my nephews flag football games. Wish there was more parking but I get it. In the summer the shaved ice guy comes and it's the best.

Every time we talk to an employee they give us wrong information. Then we get hassled because we come for things at times we were told we could. They also do not like to honor passes they themselves gave us. The employees seriously need to get on the same page and get some better communication systems. Also quite rude front desk people. Find another place to have fun!

At $1300 a team, you’d think there would be someone updating the scores. We’re done with team sports at the y. It’s been low effort on every sport we’ve played.
