Peerless is charming and eclectic, and historic! We came in the front door and were greeted by a warm crackling fire in the fireplace! Which is where we chose to sit and enjoy champagne! This was our 3rd stay, I think? The first stay, we were upstairs and the room was tight, but who cares! It was warm, comfy and only one night. Easy to manage with a small "carry on" bag. We have now been in Room 1 and 2 downstairs - love them both! They are roomier and the bedding is luscious! The common areas are inviting and we walk everywhere and take in a nice dinner and a play. I called the hotel once, and was answered right away! We love the air bnb style check in! Parking is a cinch, the Peerless Restaurant is next door. We could not ask for more! Until next time ...Larry and Julie

My partner and I have had the pleasure of staying at the Peerless on two occasions, and it has unequivocally become our preferred hotel in Ashland. Despite our visits being a couple of years apart, our most recent stay afforded us the opportunity to revel in the breathtaking new renovations that the hotel has undergone.Securing our reservation through a third-party booking agency, we found the keyless, self-check-in system to be remarkably convenient. As travelers who cover a considerable distance, the seamless check-in process allowed us to settle in without the need for extensive interactions. The property itself is nothing short of spectacular—charming, cozy, and meticulously detailed. Substantial upgrades, particularly in the common areas, have taken place since our last visit. The front entry exudes warmth with an ambient fireplace, antique furniture, and intriguing artifacts, including captivating images of the hotel's resident ghost from the past. Our chosen abode, room 3, was a grand three-room suite that exuded romance. The ambient lighting, flickering candle lights in antique lamps, and thoughtful touches like champagne and chocolates on the bed created an enchanting atmosphere. Attention to detail was evident, with two side-by-side clawfoot tubs in the spacious bathroom, a sitting room featuring a fireplace, and various inviting corners to relax. The bed provided an exceptionally comfortable haven, contributing to a restful three-night stay. The main common area/sitting room, where complimentary coffee, tea, and water are available around the clock, was another highlight. We appreciated the diverse selection of games that added to our enjoyment. While the hotel offers three parking spots in the rear, our large truck found ample space in the front on-street parking. The location in a quiet neighborhood was a delightful escape from our urban routine. Exploring downtown and the charming neighborhood, replete with beautiful homes and local wildlife like deer and squirrels, added to our overall enjoyment. It's worth noting that the staircase leading to the upstairs rooms is somewhat narrow. However, a straightaway staircase on the right side of the building provides a more navigable route to the second floor, especially when handling luggage. Checking in through the front or back door and opening it from the inside ensures a smooth entry.

I enjoyed our stay we stayed in room 7 - it was perfect for the exception of no TV we were trying to see a few mins of a show but due to lack of TV it wasnt possible- we saw it on our phones instead. Other than that the location was great we walked to dinner and always love to comeVisit Ashland from San Francisco. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Rooms: Unbelievably antique appointed rooms with all the conveniences. Colorful, romantic and a big surprise!Nearby activities: Excellent restaurants and bistros just blocks from the inn.Walkability: Lovely night for a walk! Peaceful, safe, fragrant.Noteworthy details: This inn is quite a find! The first impression of the outside courtyard, the front lobby and rear sunroof made me so happy!! I can see why it made it into the book of 1000 Places to See Before you Die !! So glad we came across it on our way from Seattle to Cupertino!

Beautiful accidental find. Well worth staying here for a few nights. Very clean, cozy, classic boutique. Can't wait to come back.

Please read their updated description. Most of the reviews of this property are very old the place has changed. It's now self check-in, which means there is no one to greet you or offer any assistance. This is part of a growing trend with boutique hotels which I find very disturbing. A lot of the charm of these places was the personal service. Now that's gone so they can save a few bucks on staffing. We did encounter one housekeeping person who shows up occasionally, but when we got up the next morning, all that was offered was coffee that wasn't freshly made. Which type of place are you going to return to - the one where you were greeted and treated like you matter or the one where you were checked in with a code and you never interacted with another warm body? Its still a beautiful building with obvious history, but there are a lot of great bnbs in Ashland and I will support them from now on vs. this formerly charming place.

To call this a hotel is a joke, the reason you stay at a hotel rather than an Airbnb is to get some service but there isn’t anyone around to help. Their automated check in system failed which left us (and another couple) outside in the rain and nobody picking up the phones - the one listed was disconnected, the one on google went to voicemail. Eventually got through and in the room and it was cold, thermostat on the fire was 66 degrees and no way to get it warmer. The room apart from the cold was fine but for the price you pay you shouldn’t have to deal with problems which could easily be solved by having somebody on the front desk for a few hours during check in.

Historic beautiful building with unique period piece furniture. Gorgeous garden with private access. Close to downtown without being downtown. Will stay here again!

Since I didn't ever hear back from the company to get my money back, I did dispute the charge with my bank. Today, several days later I got a response from someone. Just to clarify some points, BookStayHop did not ever apologize for failing to do their main job of managing my booking. The original total for my hotel booking was just shy of $600 and the house they stuck me in was $298, so it was not an obvious upgrade. And no one ever said anything about all the dead flies, cobwebs, dust, or animal feces around the house. I SURELY would never even attempt to use this company again even if they didn't tell me otherwise.

The place is quirky and in general a fun place to stay at. The check in/out is a fully automated process and we did not see a soul during our one night stay in that hotel. We stayed in room 7 and it is beautifully equipped. Unfortunately our boxspring was broken and because this is a fully automated process we had to call a number to talk to someone about this.I sincerely hope we were just unfortunate with the broken boxspring and that the unstaffed lobby is a temporary thing due to covid.A staffed lobby would have been helpful for our predicament; but also the flair of this place would certainly thrive on it.It deserves great reviews. A lot of detail went into this place. So maybe we give it another chance next time we are in Ashland.

My husband and I stayed in room 5 and room 6 in July.We were happy to have a charger for our car and that was why we decided to book the Peerless. The rooms were quite small with barely enough room to move around the bed. The price was high before the additional cleaning fees and with the fees we paid $418 for room 6. The furniture felt too big for the rooms and not functional making the small rooms feel even smaller. For the price of the room, I would have expected an air conditioner which would have made the temperature in our room tolerable. We won’t be going back.

We were driving home to California from Seattle and booked a one night stay here. I got really excited when I saw the hotel on the listing. Coming from the bay area and visiting the Winchester Mystery house several times growing up, this place reminded me of WMC. Our room didn't disappoint. It was so cool and well decorated. We stayed in suite 3 which had 2 claw foot tubs. The whole hotel was quirky, fun, and eccentric!I wasn't prepared for the narrow steep staircase up to our room or the fact that there was no front desk person to check us in. The lack of people and the quietness added to the ghostly/historic feel.I would stay here again but either stay on the bottom floor or only bring a small weekend bag as climbing the stairs with anything larger is rather difficult. From reading previous reviews, It seems there used to be more amenities provided with a stay here. Those would have made the stay extra special.

This place is like staying in a museum dedicated to Ashland’s past.We were so thrilled to spend a night in Suite 7 at the Peerless Hotel. This place is a total gem, and it is immediately obvious the thought and care that went into the building’s design from the moment you step in the door. We felt as though we were staying in a museum, with the lobby and common area being cozy and full of books that took us back in time. Our room was inviting, classy, and (super) clean. The wraparound windows made us feel like we were nestled into the trees. The adjustable shades throughout the suite allowed for privacy but tons of natural light. The jacuzzi tub was a total bonus, such a treat! There were ample towels, blankets, and space to spread out. The patio off the bedroom was great for bird watching in the early morning. It’s a 5 minute walk through beautiful neighborhoods right to the middle of downtown Ashland, perfect location to walk to dinner or out for a drink. We barely spent time in town because we were so excited to explore everything within the hotel. Upon a closer look we discovered framed photographs of Ashland’s past, decorative brass plates in the corners of the stairs, and hand painted murals…We recommend waking up early and enjoying coffee by the fireplace in the lobby. Absolutely worth staying here at any time of year! Many thanks for sharing your space with us Peerless Hotel team! All the best,Samantha and Silas
