Service was better than the Waldorf. Staff is welcoming and professional. Building is amazing. Stout pie and craft cocktails were delicious. The hotel was the destination for us and it did not disappoint.

Parking sucks my husband needs handicap parking but this the owners personal space. The place is old and musty. Don't stay if you have allergies.

We walked into the bar with my brother and his wife at the Geiser Grand Hotel and immediately felt relaxed and comfortable. Jason is the most amazing mixologist and engaged us in all the selections. So much fun we came back the next morning for a wonderful breakfast with the best bloody mary's!!! We highly recommend and will be back!

I have read many customer reviews and understand that management will simply respond by countering my feedback with a "clarification" rather than a "Wow. We can do better."
This is unfortunate given that the hotel is probably losing market share to short term rentals. And employee reviews on Indeed and Glassdoor are also pretty dismal, which is sad in a small town.
We have visited the Geiser Grand numerous times, because of the generous pet policy - which we greatly appreciate. We also believe in supporting small local businesses and value efforts to preserve original architecture and local character which the owner of the Geiser Grand has done admirably. And we forego short term rentals in favor of hotels, because they generally hire and train professional staff who can immediately respond to problems.
So, it was really disappointing to have the person at the front desk work us so hard to take a more expensive room and talk up the library (that in the past I loved to visit) which was locked and filled with sheets, etc.
Over the years we have gone no farther than the fabulous and breathtaking Palm Court restaurant for dinner. The service was adequate, but I completely agree with many folks who have said the quality of the menu has declined. The food was really sub-par, especially the rib eye steak, which was well-done (I asked for medium rare). The included vegetables were an afterthought and the crème brulée was tasteless and thin.
The 12pm check out policy is better than most hotels offer, but we had a car emergency just before loading our luggage. We asked for a slightly later check out and were told by the brand new desk person (w/o consulting his manager) that we would have to pay a late check out charge if we did not clear out by 12pm despite our flat tire. Imagine trying to round up your pets or kids and luggage to check out without a functional vehicle. Unacceptable.
FYI Management - People choose hotels over short term rentals, because there are established protocols that can be flexibly and thoughtfully tweaked. And hotels (with the right staff) can respond to sudden problems with kind, creative, and professional workarounds.
It might be a good idea to take customer concerns more seriously and learn to problem-solve without making a bunch of clarifications and excuses. Your denials won't win you new or returning customers.

We have stayed at this hotel at least 30 times over the past 15 years. I had my Mom from out of town with me and she wanted to see it and decide if she might want to stay while we were here. We walked into the front desk and told the woman at the desk we just wanted to let my mom see the center part, not walk in or go any further than 30 feet from the front desk. The woman at the desk told us no and that we could pay for a ghost tour. Are you serious? What if she had wanted to see a room? Would we have to pay? We were going to get lunch in the restaurant but this experience just left us feeling like trespassers. This hotel is old and over priced. It isn't anything special and definitely not haunted. The ghost tours are silly. We will never stay here again

Wonderful, relaxing stay. Enjoyed the hospitality of the staff and the quiet, clean room. We took the tour of the hotel which was very interesting and informative of the incredible renovation of the hotel. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and interactions with other guests during our stay. Staff was friendly and efficient.
Will definitely plan to stay again when our travels take us through eastern Oregon.
Rooms: Loved the high ceilings and large windows. Nice amenities in the room and great climate control. Bed was very comfortable.
Food and drinks: Enjoyed having drinks in the small bar area and dinner in the main dining area. Staff was very accommodating.

This review is based entirely on my interaction with the woman staffing the Front desk Saturday morning.
My wife and I stopped in for Breakfast on our way down I 84.
after we finished breakfast, we were walking back out and stopped to look at the main dining room which you have to walk past.
We were rudely told by this woman that we could not stop to look and needed to leave!, however we could come back later in the afternoon and pay for a tour of the entire hotel.
She also stated that she didn't make the rules, she just had to enforce them.
We will never set foot in this Hotel again.

We decided to stay at the Geiser for our last night on a long trip from WA-CO-WA. Loved the idea of the haunted theme and the fact that it's something different than your average hotel experience. Staff was informative and helpful. We upgraded to the Lady in Blue suite and it was worth it. A beautiful room with a good view. Bed was SUPER comfy. Room service was quick and the food and wine were delicious. The wife loved the jacuzzi tub. We got a great price by upgrading our room to the suite. Will DEFINITELY be back.

We had a delightful stay at the Geiser Grand while visiting Baker. The nostalgic feel and authenticity is pretty amazing. We'd driven by the signs on the Interstate, but never stopped in. It's a street side hotel, so expect some street noise if you're a light sleeper. Know that parking is street side, unless you use their valet service. We had a comfortable stay and appreciated the friendly staff. We were in town for a friend's wedding and we're hungry upon our return. Room service was a nice touch! It was a nice to have the modern upgrade of a big soaker tub with Jacuzzi jets in our room. After running the bath water and getting in, I very distinctly, but very faintly, heard a woman's voice ask "how are you?". Whoa! Was that the famed 'woman in blue' that supposedly haunts this hotel ? ? Come see for yourself!
Walkability: Walk around downtown, definitely.

This place could be so much better if management understood simple things about training and setting expectations for the employees to follow. The GM needs to go as she showed us how bad of a manager/trainer she is of the staff. The property needs more..much more work. We have stayed in many old historical properties, but this place needs help. And if you take their hotel tour to see and learn about the hotel history. Take a fact checker along. There are to many incorrect elements of the story to mention them all, the outside windows are not original glass, they are double glazed current technology as one example of their incorrect story. I hope someone takes over the place and really fixes it. Location is good and Baker city and the surrounding area are worth visiting.
