Kicked our child out without warning did not make an attempt to warn us or work with us. Simply called my wife out of work early in the middle of the work week and proceeded to inform her that he would not be able to come back for an unspecified amount of time. We both work and now are had to give my boss less than 24hr notice of myself not being able to go back to work for an unspecified amount of time. These people are absolute scum and unprofessional.

My experience at The Boys and Girls Club was overwhelmingly negative, and I feel it's essential to share the details to warn others about the challenges they might face there. To start, the work environment is toxic. Management treats employees as if they are replaceable and openly displays favoritism, which creates a hostile atmosphere for those not in the inner circle. This favoritism not only demoralizes staff but also affects the quality of care provided to the children. The management team is remarkably unsupportive and unhelpful. They seem disinterested in providing guidance or support to their staff, leading to a lack of professional development opportunities and a disregard for employees' well-being.One of the most concerning aspects of this organization is how they handle incidents involving children. Even in situations where a child is injured, they fail to take these matters seriously. This negligence is a breach of their duty to ensure the safety and well-being of the children under their care. The director's leadership is particularly problematic. Their actions contribute to the overall dysfunction and lack of accountability within the organization. I would strongly advise parents to steer clear of this establishment. It encourages poor behavior in youths and rewards negative actions in some cases. For instance, I witnessed a situation where a child physically hurt another child, and instead of addressing the issue properly, they rewarded the aggressor with a game and a lollipop. If I ever have children, I would never consider sending them to a place with such a manipulative, favoritism-driven, and neglectful environment. The Boys and Girls Club desperately needs a complete overhaul in management and practices to provide a safe and supportive environment for both employees and the children they are supposed to serve.

Boys and Girls has sadly gone downhill making life for parents SO hard. Not only is this club ran by a young unqualified staff but astronomical procedures are in place for something as simple as one five year old pushing another. They have zero understanding of what children are actually like and their communication with parents is the worst I have encountered. Our son has actually said he doesn’t feel good when he is there. There are cheaper better option town. I would advise you look.

Unfortunately, this organization that prides itself on inclusivity, doesn't practice what it preaches. There is no room for diverse thoughts, ideas or values. Children are expected to comply with vague, subjective rules and have the comprehension of an adult. The staff, particularly the leadership staff, are inaccessible so no rapport is built or communication established. Curriculums are taught to kids without notification or consent from parents. Lastly, like everything else in Bend, pricing has gone up and is yet another program that is harder to access by low income families. All around, the decline of this place is sad and disheartening.

The best mission for youth development for the kids in Bend who need us most. Bess, Whitney and the team at Boys & Girls Clubs are superstars and you want to be part of this movement to give every child a chance at a great future!

This is a top-notch local organization, dedicated to providing a safe, engaging community for Bend's youth. Their leadership is strong and clearly passionate about what they do. Our town is a better place thanks to BGCB!

Horrible Management. 30 minute lunch breaks for an 8-9 hour day, everyone who worked there was absolutely miserable and wanted to quit (and eventually did). Workplace culture was extremely toxic mostly because of main program coordinator, Whitney. Extremely unorganized for their summer program, especially going into the school year. They take advantage of your labor, it's almost impossible to take time off. Some co-workers were denied leave and medical care at certain points of their time working here. This company has a very hard time retaining its workers. McDonalds is actually paying a higher salary than this place. You work with kids from ages 5-18 from 7:15am (ish) to almost 5pm (M-F) with only one other worker staggering hours with you so, taking bathroom breaks are impossible. Just overall 0/10 experience, waking up every morning to go to this job was agonizing. I really hope they eventually see that the Director of Program Administration is really a main reason as to why the workplace environment is so toxic. The sad part is the kids are amazing, and this job has so much potential to be a fun, enjoyable place to work. But the strict rules, co-workers and everything else explained above is unbearable and impossible to work for. If you're looking to get extremely burnt out, not feel appreciated and have zero satisfaction with the time you're spending here, this is the job for you!
