TRAILER/RV CAMPERS BEWARE!! Took my family on a camping trip to Detroit Campground, last weekend Sept 22-24th 2023. As soon as we plugged our power cord to our camp trailer into their electric hook up, it smoked, sparked & caught fire in a matter of seconds. It was already an eventful day because we had to take one of our family members to the ER for a collapsed lung- so we didn't get to the campground until late that night. Then, this electrical fire happens to top off the night!!! Poor kids & us had no electricity (which means no heat, no lights, no cooking). Next day we called stores, they said they had the cord but didn't actually have the right one after all. We had made 2 trips back to Salem looking for a new cord for our trailer. Which we found that no one carried that style plug. The maintenance guy Simon who works at the campground changed out a burnt ground wire & burnt receptacle. Why change those two things out- if they weren't bad??? ? Simon said we should file a claim for reimbursement on the trailer cord. What's interesting is no one was helpful getting us the info for filing a claim until the last park ranger I believe his name was Greg. He said to call & ask for Robert Ray.Shout out to park host Brian he was awesome. He was trying to help us. That guy We didn't catch the other lady's name that was next to him but we think that was his wife that was also trying to help us. Those two people were awesome. We called the Detroit Campground on Monday to talk to Robert Ray about the trouble we had but instead got some lady. She said she'd call us back but instead they had Simon call us a few days later to tell us they will not reimburse us or give us another stay (on them). We didn't even get to enjoy our weekend. I paid for full hook up, not a tent site. We froze our buns off. Remember, it's colder in the mountains & Fall weather. At this point, I'm not sure we'll be back. We didn't even get to enjoy our family trip because we were taking time by driving back & forth to Salem, because they had faulty electrical!!!Buy a surge protector!! We did because after this experience, we're not taking any chances!!!

We camped there for 2 days . The lake was low as it was at the end of summer. Bathrooms were very clean free showers. Friendly staff on-site. Nice playground for the kids. Nice quiet place to camp with fabulous views

On an ad hoc drive through southern Oregon, after viewing the annular eclipse on Oct 14, 23 we stumbled upon this campground and it was a gem!The campground is nestled between redwoods beside the Detroit Lake. A snowcapped mountain peeks from behind tree covered hills to the east - a sight to behold at sunrise.Clean bathrooms, kids playgrounds, a BBQ pit at each site, option to hookup for RVs - a very versatile place to camp.

What a beautiful campground, but holy pine needles! Bring your kayaks, boats or whatever you prefer to check out the lake. Our sight was only 20 Amp, and had no sewer hook up. Some sites did have sewer hook up, but unsure about the amperage at other sites/loops. There is no dump station here either. We were in H loop, inside site. Most sites have a great view of the lake. We walked to the end of the campground, there was a cool new looking playground. Definitely will return.

Entrance was easy to find. $5 parking fee, no attendant so you have to pay with card. Arrived at 12:30 on a Saturday and found no parking spaces closest to the lake. Had to drive back up to where the boat trailers park. The walk wasn’t that bad. The shoreline is pretty rocky and not a lot of flat spaces to lay out towels but we did find a nice flat space to set up. The lake temperature was perfect, not too cold at all. The water was pretty muddy and the ground first walking in was kind of squishy (good thing I had water shoes on). Overall, this was a good place to hang out and swim. I give 3 stars for limited parking, not a lot of flat space to lay out, and muddy water. Obviously this is part of nature and not all lakes are going to be crystal clear or free of rocks. I’ve just experienced better areas than this one, right outside of Portland, to go swimming. The drive from Portland was exactly 2 hours, probably wouldn’t make the drive again.

Great, not crowded the day after labor day. Only negative was getting stung by a yellow jacket. Also, fishing was terrible.

We LOVE it here! Camped at this campground as a kid and so excited to bring my own children here now that I have my own. The lake is beautiful, the camp sites are spacious and well placed, and the camp ground staff is AWESOME. Busy in the summer but if you’re flexible and diligent, it’s not hard to snag a night or two. Highly recommended!Playground: Basic playground next to the restrooms. Not well placed by most campsite (can’t see kids from campsite) but a good option for kids and easily accessibleRestrooms: Restrooms well lit and well maintainedDog-friendliness: What goes together better than dogs and camping? Lots of pups camping with their families. Kept our dog on a long lead at our camp site and down by the lakePicnic area: Several picnic tables near the swimming area, ranger station, and playground for day use

Great State Park with a huge campground in the forest on the lake shore . Lots of tent and RV sites and boat ramps, swimming beaches and mooring docks. Bathroom and shower facilities are not new, but fairly clean and tidy. A very nice place to spend a couple of days, even if you are not a boater.Picnic area: Picnic area in the day use area are newly renovated and looks inviting
