Came for XL climbing shoes, referred over from REI. Great selection, helpful staff (near closing on a Monday evening. Ultimately tried on five pairs of shoes to nail down my size (and make sure if I wanted laces or velcro).They had helpful comments and were patient with my newcomer questions.Their climbing shoe selection is pretty impressive. The whole store is well put-together. I’d like to just go there and shop around sometime.

I recently bought a pair of snowboarding boots from backcountry.com that were advertised as "true to size." I tried them on when I received and they were at least a size too small, could not even get my foot in there. I talked to one of their "gearheads" and they said I would receive a full refund for the purchase. Here is the return policy listed on their website: "Unused gear can be returned at any time, with proof of purchase, for a full refund to your original method of payment. Unused gear must be returned in the condition you received it and with the original box and/or packaging, including manufacturer tags where applicable. If the original method of payment is unavailable, we will issue your refund in the form of store credit." When I followed up with them, they said the gear was "used" because I tried on the shoes. The new "gearhead" was super rude, and said that they weren't new because I tried them on. Lol. They also blatantly lied and said that the box was "full of glitter." Well that's a red flag for a company to be waiving. Do yourself a favor and go to a more reputable shop, like evo.com where I've never had any issues. Backcountry.com will straight lie to your face over and over again to keep your money.

Went in to find a mountaineering pack. Great selection and staff were very friendly and helpful. I found an excellent pack, better than I had hoped for. It was a great price too. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely ridiculous hoops to jump through when using a different billing address than shipping address with credit card online. Bought a $200 jacket so not a large purchase. Customer service guy seemed pretty clueless and had no other way to validate identity other than to "wait for the small transaction to show up on your credit card and then let us know". Plenty of other options out there that are more user friendly. Won't be using again.

Came in 9/13 looking for climbing shoes. I know nothing about climbing. Gal there gave me lots of options and was able to talk me through everything. Great visit.

I’ve lived in Eugene for years and somehow never knew this was here. I needed a PFD last minute and late in the season and thought I’d be out of luck for finding one locally, but they had several styles to chose from in stock. The guys working there were super nice and helped me find one that would work for paddling and even helped fit it to me. It was even on sale! I will definitely be stopping back in.
