Best museum choice EVER!! I never imagined that my own family name would be anywhere let alone a museum. There is a wall on the first floor dedicated to the Vandecoevering name. I took pictures. I'm so stoked!! I have a clue to my family history after 35 years of knowing little to nothing accept that it's a Dutch name. Haha! I'm tickled pink by this I ended up having a panick attack I was so happy and excited.

I stopped by the museum tovisit the great exhibits on theearly exploration of the ColumbiaRiver and the Pacific Coast byCaptain Robert Gray.It was nice to see the historyon the early days of Garibaldiwith exhibits on logging, fishing, and the early Coast Guard Station. The Robert Gray exhibits offerssome great exhibits on his twovoyages that explored andclaimed the Columbia Riverfor the United States. The other exhibits include ahistorical firearms display, the history of coastal tribesthat traded furs with CaptainGray, a nice Japanese Floatdisplay, and carved pieces ofbone or ivory Scrimshaw.Located on Highway 101 nearSecond Street in Garibaldi, ashort distance from the OregonCoast Scenic Railroad train depot.A nice museum to stop by andlearn the history of the earlydays of Garibaldi and thejourneys of Captain RobertGray as he explored theColumbia River.

We are staying in Garibaldi and really enjoyed the museum as they have a detailed history of Garibaldi. They also cover the Oregon and Washington coast in regards to the original sailors who discovered the area. Nice museum and entry fee very reasonable.

This museum packs a surprising amount of items in its building! Lots of really neat history & artifacts from the Northern Oregon coast area. The 2 ladies who were running things when my hubby and I came through were unbelievably nice! As an Oregon history buff myself and my husband into maritime history we geeked out and had really enjoyable conversation with the 2 gals that were there. We went at the end of the tourist season so we had the museum to ourselves for the majority of the time. Looking forward to exploring thru it all again!I dont remember for sure, but I think the admission 'price' was on a donation basis. For someone living on SSD, I appreciate being able to pay what I can & not being denied entry due to my lousy financial situation.

We had a couple of VERY rainy days on a recent trip to the coast. Cue exploring some indoor activities and this one is a fun hidden gem. It cost $4/adult and the little kids were free. The whole museum was well laid out, labeled, and interesting. There were sections on local history, Native American history of the area, early explorers, and lots of boats and fishing gear. They even have a kid’s corner with toys and dress up. We spent about 45 minutes exploring and I could go back and read more but the kids were done.

Garibaldi is near the south end of "The Graveyard of the Pacific" and this very enjoyable Maritime Museum sets the context for an understanding of the local area and its tumultuous history. Inexpensive, accessible, a nice complement to the local heritage railroad.

Very informative. Lots of history on Robert Gray, the Native Americans that lived in the area, and the towns around Tillamook bay. The quality of the items and artifacts on display are excellent. I was quite impressed with the bow of the wrecked ship that was restored by the community. The firearms collection was also of great quality. I would be quite proud of this museum if it was in my community.
