*ern ern* "Let me sail, let me sail, let the Orinoco flow" Wait, that's not right! "Let me ride, let me ride, let the Orenco flow". I have came to this tram station once when I lived in Tigard, Oregon after they guy my ex dumped me for tried to harm me. This station is in a pretty sweet location near an open air market, some shophouses and a lot of prestige restaurants that serve very delicious food. I don't hang around this part of the PDX metro area but love the settings because during most hours it's very quiet until a tram rings its bell or honks the horn. Once you get off here, you have a lot of room to walk around. I am back in California now and it feels like Santana Row but with more affordable options because everything is expensive in Cali. You can also catch an additional bus here if you wish to continue your journey.

The Orenco Platform Station is a major stop for me and I can make a day out of it without it being drudgery. When I'm not on a MAX I'm most likely on my bike and for my suburban needs, this stop is great. Within a mile or so are a lot of the national big-box retailers and an unseemly amount of fast food joints. There are times when both of these are key. Within strolling distance from the Platform are some interesting lunch places and past Cornell, New Seasons, Kitchen Kaboodle and another smattering of restaurants. All of the food purveyors facing the train platform at the Orenco Station stop have online ordering, which is slick, fun and time-saving. I noticed a flower stand to the side of in case you are in trouble because as we know, flowers can save lives. WiFi is free. The eBike storage room is larger than my first apartment. It is kinda hard to describe the atmosphere and vibe of the Platform. I call the architecture neo-Stalinism and the place metaphorically off gasses PVC. No matter. There is a boulangerie, the station is clean, safe and uptight tech types trying to fit in wander around bumping into things--what else can you hope for?

5 dollars is really cheap transportation. This is especially great for those who hate driving. I love to be downtown and have no worries for parking or drinking and driving. PLUS--no having to sit in traffic!!!

I won't belabor the point, but well before Intel and the other tech folk came across in the Subaru wagon trains, this whole area was rural. The most time Portlanders spent out this way was whizzing through on the Sunset on the way to the Oregon Coast with nary a thought to anything called Orenco or Greater Downtown Hillsboro. Now that I've finished my opening monologue, we can get serious and discuss this one-trick pony (literally served by one public bus line, TriMet 47). It's also served by Intel Employee bus transport services and North Hillsboro Link service (connecting the North Hillsboro areas not served by TriMet). I think that in terms of aesthetics, this station was well-planned. The station is constructed in the main of brick as are the surrounding brand-new high-rise apartment buildings. It makes for a matchy-matchy feeling (someone else has referred to it as Stepford, and it does give that impression.) Several restaurants occupy the retail space on the ground floor (Ava Roasteria and La Provence and others). I do like this because I can dash over while waiting for the bus and grab coffee. While this station has a matchy-matchy feeling and some limited utility (no parking lot for cars and very little seating for passengers on the train platform), it is attractive, and seems to be part of a well-thought out partnership between TriMet and the City of Hillsboro. Now if they would extend bus service past Imbrie Drive out torward West Union Road.

This Orenco station max stop id 9835 is a bit Stepfords wives for me. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice area, tons with in walking distance, row after row of perfectly manicured townhouses. There's plenty of parking and the Max will take you right downtown. It's very pretty and self sufficient, but a little too Martha Stewart for me.
