This shop has a rep for great prices and service, but be sure to read the greatly divergent reviews on both. Apparently when it's good it's really good. When it's bad it's bad. This time, for me, poor customer service. Scheduled a 7am oil change a few weeks back. Was the first customer there at 7 am this morning. I was surprised to hear my car would not get in the bay until "later". When I asked how much later, he said around lunchtime. Flat out refused to call or text when they were about to be ready so I wouldn't have to pay for round trip Uber.I distinctly remember being told "good-- early in early out" when I chose the earliest available (7AM) appt. I erroneously assumed this meant I could wait and would receive priority. We did not explicitly discuss waiting (or not) but I assumed that's what that meant. After being refused a text or call I reminded him they said "early in early out" when I booked. He said he never says that. In other words -- you are both stupid AND senile :) And said with a straight face, after scheduling first available appt. 7 am weeks before, I could reschedule another day. In other words -- we don't care about your time (or evidently your money), only ours. (And, we don't really respect you either). I didn't like the take it or leave it attitude -- it seemed that they didn't value or need my business, and didn't care that I would have to Uber to/from or come twice in one day.I imagined from this interaction if there were a more serious issue with service that they would not collaborate to solve the issue. In other words -- "I'm always right" when clearly his memory is lacking, as well as his customer skills. I didn't see any evidence of accountability. I said politely that I thought the business relationship had been ruptured (with his sort of belligerent approach) and turned to go. He literally said said "OK!" So you see? That's OK by them. I won't feel comfortable using them in the future. I did appreciate when using this shop for the first time the owner gave a rock bottom price and only did what was necessary from the Toyota checklist compared to what the dealer was trying to sell. This seems to be what they do best. Another reviewer mentioned a AAA break that was never mentioned but worth asking about if you do try them. Ended up going straight to the Toyota dealer where I was in and out in 1.5 hour. Not dirt cheapest but still nice, where you can work in a pleasant environment and also they will give you a ride and pick up if you arrange for one -- this is part of what you are paying for. Just beware of upcharges at dealerships -- make sure they separate optional from required. With this shop, figure 2-way UBER into your price, unless you have a ride, or if the owner has specifically promised to get you in and out while you wait. And maybe a bit of "straight talk" as another reviewer has noted.UPDATE after shop response: * " We appreciate...while we regret..." all talk, no action. * completely untrue that there was no appt -- I made one. If no real appt was available and only drop off available it was not spoken to me. * what of refusal to call or text ahead of my turn? So wouldn't have to UBER but still keep appointment. Exceptional service? That would be a compromise if as they said there was a misunderstanding about the 7AM appt?. Nope it's their way or the highway. * what of saying OK! when I said I had lost trust.* even if he thinks he "never says that" - is it still good customer service to say that flat out to a customer who waited patiently to communicate that recollection and rescue the service appt for that day?You decide. I got the picture and I'm glad I did without spending a lot of money or the hassle of a car problem: if you've got an issue with us, it's your problem, not ours. We won't even stoop to call or text you. Bottom line is this shop doesn't need your business and their attitude

The folks were very communicative and fixed the car quickly! They reviewed the car and called within 1.5 hrs to let me know what the prognosis is, the timing, and the cost! They had it completed as stated and were friendly! I will certainly go there again!

Matt is a straight-shooter, an excellent mechanic, and a helluva nice guy. Have taken multiple cars to him and they have all been repaired perfectly and at a much better cost than other mechanics. Scholls Auto Repair is my go to mechanic ????

Chris at Scholls Ferry Automotive always gives good, honest advice. Prices are fair, and they do what they say they will do. You can trust these guys.

I know it is standard procedure now a days to charge for diagnosis but does it really take a hour to tell someone it is your alternator? I already told them that's was it was so they charged me $130 for them to tell me what I already knew it was. I feel they charged me top dollar for the actual alternator. Yes the guy at the counter (Chris) was very nice but I question the diagnosis charges that apparently all shops are doing now. I will keep looking for a good old fashion (take care of your neighbors and they will take care of you) mechanic like Handy Andy's in Multnomah Village. RIP Andy we miss you. I hope that extra $65 was worth this not so good review.

This place charged me $250 dollars to tell me my car doesn't work and I need to go to a specialist... wow and then they let my car battery die which with this car leaves me the inability to unlock it. This leaves me without a way to retrieve valuable items that are needed immediately. The staff member Kris told me he is the owner which is a lie and was less than helpful to say the least.

The quick highlights (know we're all busy, but this stuff is expensive and important and these guys are terrible): These guys truly are scammers (look at the other reviews and below). They charged me extreme amounts of money for work that wasn't done right and broke instantly. They left hoses undone in my engine bay and, more importantly, they left tools in my engine bay. The longer version: I have a lot of things to say here and if you are in the unfortunate position of considering these guys for your car, I would listen. It will take you less than 2 minute and it will save you money, time and emotion. Now, these kinds of reviews are tricky. I'm sure that by the time you're reading this, there will be a response that outlines ALLLL the ways I am wrong and how I was explained this and that. And I'm sure, if you are considering these guys, that response will seem satisfying and reassuring. I'm just like you though. I was in your exact position. And you are just as likely to be screwed by these guys as I am. And I'm not close to being alone here - see all the other reviews - It takes all of 2 seconds to see a consistent thread with these guys. "Scammers" - "cheaters" - "overpriced" "bad work" etc. Even if there is a small bit of doubt, why take the risk with your car? These guys charged me $300 to replace 2, yes that's right, 2 hoses for my radiator. 2 hours of quoted work that takes about 20 minutes to do. How do I know? Because all you have to do is drain the fluid out and install new hoses. I went to get my fluids changed about a week ago and it took the guy 5 minutes to do - even still, you're charging me to literally set the drain up and walk away? BUT HERE'S THE KICKER. After arguing with the guy about it, I got it home and the hoses they installed were leaking. They didn't even bother to tighten it. So $300 dollars for two hoses and an install that broke within minutes of having the car. Great work. Oh, and when I called to talk to them about it, they pretended like the phone was breaking up. 5 times. What is this? An early 2000s movie? Then we move to the power steering pump. They quoted 2 hours to replace that, something that sits at the top of the engine bay. So $400 later for something that should have taken half the time. Here's the kicker in all this. They left tools in my engine bay. Are you kidding me? Do you know how dangerous that is? One bump and that thing is heading straight to the fan. When I confronted them about all this, they were indifferent and rude. He told me "what, you've never made mistakes in your life?" No resolution, no empathy and no apology. No attempt to assure me about anything. These guys want your money and do terrible work. If you don't believe me - take a look at their reviews. Or, if you're feeling lucky, take your car in and see how you fair with them. For me, never again. There are too many good mechanics around town to take that risk. Hey Scholls Auto - thank you for taking advantage of me and for doing crap work in the process. Don't know how you can leave work and feel proud about any of this.

So I walked in and tried to order a hamburger and they told me to take a hike... very disappointed in them.

We have been using these guys for years. They maintain and manage our entire fleet of company vehicles including pick up and drop off which is a huge convenience for me and my team. Additionally they perform work on all of my personal vehicles and have always done a fantastic job at a fair price. They always stand behind their work and I would highly recommend this shop. This is coming from a person who knows and has done a lot of auto mechanic work and simply doesn't have the time to deal with it anymore. Thanks SFA!!
