Had a great experience with this shop today. As a newbie to the deschutes, Amy and staff were incredibly friendly and helpful in both fly selection and general river advice which resulted in an awesome 1st trip with 3 large redbands landed (ON AMY'S RECOMMENDED FLY CHOICE) couldn't recommend this shop more!

They know the river better than anyone else. Listen to them. On your next trip stop by and get some advice on what the trout are taking and you will catch more fish. I was helped by a number of their team while on my trip and got nothing but solid advice and kind customer service - Thanks

Incredible customer service and the most complete selection of flies I've ever seen. I got timely, accurate fly suggestions as well as practical and useful tips about how to catch fish on the Deschutes. And I had never set foot in the shop before! They are really committed to helping you have a successful fishing experience. Wow.

Pretty nice shop, well equipped for the things you need and it’s basically the only place in town although there’s another shop just down the road with a deli. I like to chat with folks at shops and this interaction kinda ended once they made their sale. I certainly appreciate the online info these folks post. It was fair and matched my experience and not overly hopeful, just fair. I’ll be back for sure, I just had five star experiences elsewhere.

First time stopping in the shop and was actually looking forward to it for some fly suggestions and getting to meet either of the owners until I actually did. Wanted some suggestions for Spey flies in particular since I’ve dislocated my shoulder too many times to spend much time with a single hander and instead of getting suggestions john told me how I’m wrong and wasting my time. Super disappointing interaction and just left instead

Deschutes Angler is a truly outstanding fly shop. Gabor (my Hungarian brotha!) is a very nice man who sold me a bunch of flies to catch my first Deschutes redside and also provided me some very sound advice as far as best places to fish/camp. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner Amy who has had an interesting life to say the least -- just a joy to talk to about her travels and life experience that led her to Maupin.
My girlfriend and I are camping/fishing out of our car in Central Oregon for two months and thus have been to pretty much all the local fly shops but I'd have to say Deschutes Angler is my favourite simply because of the attitude and warmth of the staff. I loathe using the word, but I must say that they just have a very nice... vibe. Friendly and welcoming. They didn't treat me like an out-of-state idiot, even though I very much am one!

Best Customer Service Ever! It was actually back in the Fall of 2016. I had just purchased a G. Loomis 6wt switch rod from a friend. I wanted to get a reel for it after a long day on the water. My wife and I rushed up to Deschutes Angler, and we got there right at closing.The Hazels invited us in. I picked a new Bauer for my rod and needed a line for it. John asked if I had the rod with me to make sure the rod, reel and line all matched weight-wise. I did not have it in the truck outside. It was doen in our trailer at the river. John said, "go ahead and get it. We'll wait for you." Mind you, it was now well after closing.We drove down, got the rod and brought it back. John put it together with the reel. John weighed to lines on a scale for their actual (not box-printed) weights. He chose one that he thought would match the rod most effectively!Years later, this experience still stands out as likely the best retail experience I've had anywhere. And yes, the line and rod cast perfectly! Thank you! (Pic is of the first fish I caught with it at disk on the lower Deschutes!)

Derrick (sp?) and Amy are a fantastic team at this shop. They really help me decide when to drive the 2 hours for my 1/2 day bombing raids on The Deschutes to grab some quality time. Derrick set me up with a fantastic Echo Eurpoean nymphing rod yesterday and both he and Amy were so incredibly helpful with advice on how to learn this nymphing technique . I really can’t thank them enough.

I'm not sure how to spell his name correctly, but Derick from this shop is awesome! He had great recommendations for flies, his advice for how to fish and break down the river was spot on, and he's funny to top it off! If youve never been to the Deschutes or even have trouble fishing big water, you definitely need to go in and talk to him.- Jared Son of Richard
