NOT A KID FRIENDLY ROCK SHOPWe we went in couple years ago owner was nice and nice to my son and my son bought an agate. Not this last weekend. He was extremely rude this time and we walked right out after he told my son in a nasty way to not touch rocks. I own a jewelry and gemstone business myself and I would never talk to anyone like that. People want to see what the rocks and gems look like before they buy. It was a $7 cabochon my son was looking at. He wasn’t going to brake it. My son had over $100 to spend and you lost out. I will never ever come back or recommend anyone to go to your shop. You’re extremely rude and nasty to kids. Change the tone of your voice and treat customers with respect. As someone in the gem and mineral business I’m applaud by your behavior in your store. Completely uncalled for. You should be ashamed of yourself for yelling at a 5 year old.

Not nice to children. My son made a joke and was told not to “act smart” after also being told not to touch anything. I understand asking people to be careful with things, but my son collects rocks. How are you supposed to choose rocks without picking them up and examining them?

I wish I could give this place zero stars. I witnessed the corpulent and elderly owner scream at a six year old girl for touching some polished agate wind chimes hanging on his door. I watched the little girl touch a couple of the chimes, and a fat red-faced old man came storming out screaming about how they were fragile and she was being inappropriate. Buddy, wind chimes should be designed to clang together, that’s what they do. Secondly, if they are so precious take them inside and don’t leave them within a child’s reach in the Newport Oregon wind. L***** Don’t waste your time at this shop. Skip it instead and go next-door to Jac Genovese. He is a kind and much more original artist than the rooster quack next-door.

The guy working there was supper cool to talk to. He know what he was talking about and was very friendly! They're options are both local and not local rocks and crystals. Everything was really well priced as well. Definitely a kid friendly area, plenty of place to park, and very accessible

It’s 8/13/21 the masks indoors just started today. As myself, my dad 60 yo veteran, and 5 yo son walked in and I had a mask in hand. The old man worker with no mask on snapped very rudely saying to put the mask on as I was in process of it. I commented “yes I no having to get back in the habit of it.” My son and dad were looking at a rock $7 SEVEN DOLLARS!! My kid 5 years old said “it’s flat it would be a good Skipping rock” the old unmasked man snapped “ it’s not for skipping! look don’t touch!” If my kid ever broke something I would pay for it. He was mean and awful.

My family and I stumbled on the shop on a recent visit to Newport, and I'm so glad we did. First, there's all kinds of really lovely decorative items made out of wonderfully polished and cut rocks. And second, we fell in love with Rooster! What a funny, interesting guy! I wanted to purchase an item, but didn't realize they only took cash. Because we were leaving town, I wasn't able to come back to pick up the item so I mailed a check when I returned home. It arrived today well packaged and in perfect condition. I love it! Thanks, Rooster!

Wish I could give zero stars but that’s not an option...I have some very rock obsessed teenagers and we were pleasantly surprised when we found the rock shop while waiting for our order at Mollies Food Follies, which was great food by the way! We walked in and were immediately stopped by the owner who informed me that my 1 year old needed a mask to enter the store and he has some for sale right behind me. Then he proceeded to say that he doubts my baby would keep her mask on but she has to. I informed him she was only 1 and no, a 1 year old won’t keep a mask on and he informed me we needed to leave his store then. Very rude so we went to Rare Finds, a cute little shop that is just a few doors down, to shop and spent quite a bit of money there instead!

I have been coming to Rooster's Rock Shop for years now. It is the special place I go to get new rock friends and to resonate with his passionate collection. One day, I hope to be as knowledgeable, talented, and inspiring as Rooster is when he shares his joy of rocks (finding, shaping, tumbling, etc.)with his quests.

My husband and I really enjoyed our visit to this shop! Lots of rare treasures to look at. The owner is full of stories about the agates he's carefully collected.
