About Pioneer Humane Society / PAWS
The Pioneer Humane Society / PAWS is an animal shelter for cats and dogs, primarily serving Umatilla County. The shelter is known for its friendly and caring staff, who work hard to ensure that people and animals are properly matched. The staff at PAWS are described as very informative and talkative, going the extra mile to make sure the adopted animals and their new owners are well-supported. They provide necessary medical requirements for the animals and help with the adoption process, making it a smooth and positive experience for the new pet owners. Despite operating on a tight budget, the shelter is kept clean and the animals are well-cared for. The staff's dedication to the animals' wellbeing is evident, and they are praised as a valuable asset to the community. However, the shelter is in need of additional funding and updates to its facilities. Nonetheless, PAWS is highly regarded by the community, with one reviewer describing it as the "nicest and cleanest shelter" they have ever visited. Overall, PAWS is recognized as a great example of how animal shelters should be run, with a focus on the welfare of both the animals and the people who adopt them.

I have fostered dogs in the past from PAWS and they found homes for them.. The last dog I fostered, over 5+ years ago, I ended up adopting. I took a walk through last week and the area inside shelter clean. Because of the heat,, they keep the dogs inside. The staff they have today, are very friendly and caring.
