Went with husband for valentines. Great food for the venue, great music. Take an Uber so you don't have to find parking. Awesome people.

Attended a benefit concert. The seating is good but because it's older, the seats are not ideal for large bodies. There are bench seats along the outer edge that provide more space.Space up front for dancing!

I had never been here before. It was a very decent place to see a show. We got there early and had our choice of seats.

Honestly love the vibe of this place. Main thing I would adjust for events like new years that have a main dance element is to remove the front two chair rows, and flatten the dance floor using a wood platform. Do this and you can have a wider draw for people who like to get down.

Came here to see a Star Wars burlesque show "Empire Strips Back." It was freaking awesome. The venue served beer, mixed drinks, and snack food. I sat in the balcony area, which was first come, first serve. Super fun time. Highly recommend.

We saw The Empire Strips Back. The experience was amazing, except I ended up positioned behind a pillar, which hindered the view. The rest of the experience was wonderful. The staff were intuitive and helpful. The seating was comfortable. Also, the process of waiting in line was tolerable due to the ticket taking employees working quickly and as one to expedite things.

I've been to a lot of venues over my 25 years being here in Portland. The Alberta Abbey stands out for a number of reasons: the quality acts they book, the welcoming staff, the solid sound system, and the multiple level floor plan to name but a few. As a non-profit venue with a mission to support the black and underserved communities of N/NE Portland, I have to say that an organization like this one is long overdue. Way to go, Guys! I'm looking forward to volunteering and giving some more time to help promote what's happening at the Abbey. I'd encourage all of you reading this review to consider doing the same. Cheers!

UPDATE: I have revised my rating given the response of the venue clarifying it was the event, not the venue, that was the source of the policy behind my primary complaint. Had the event policies not been imposed I'm sure my experience at this venue would have been better.I had the worst experience here, and the staff gave me conflicting information about whether it was the venue or the event responsible for the conditions. The chairs are uncomfortable (fine), but the temperature was turned up so high that people were crowding around the front entrance just to get some cool air. The barrier on the balcony made it hard to see the show, etc. That's what it is; it's an old building and wouldn't be so bad, except the staff wouldn't let anyone go outside during the 15-minute intermission. I can understand this restriction if the show didn't have an intermission, or if they were hosting an especially rowdy event. But the crowd was as tame and benign as you can imagine. Outside, there were many people queuing up for the next show. It's common in almost every venue, even in old buildings like this, even when alcohol is served, to let people go outside during an intermission to get out of the heat, get fresh air, smoke, vape, whatever. Especially when they're charging $70-120 per seat for a 3-hour show. Your customers are adults, not teenagers at an unsanctioned rave. I suggest not participating in venues that impose unnecessary restrictions like this, so it doesn't become a trend.
