Was in there today. Brought an item up to purchase. Sticker was marked $5.00. Angry woman at the register said that was not their sticker. There was no other price on it. She randomly made up a price of $12.99. I could have paid that, but she was mad at the world, talking rudely to co-workers. So nope. Won't be back.

Let's talk about ableism. I'm a disabled Veteran, I have seizures I can't drive and use a cane, thus I rely heavily on public transportation and use a back pack. I was thinking that I would try and save some money on winter clothes. But as soon as I walked in the extreme rude cashier at 11am 9/12/24 told me I couldn't bring my bag into the store. I offered to leave it with her, nope even More rude. You're a THRIFT STORE! WHERE POOR PEOPLE SHOP! I thought about suing but I'm just going to let the A.D.A deal with you

I love this store everything you want nothing you need has been one of my favorite store until I got accused of stealing a pair of boots today except the boots I had on the sole in the back was coming off and had a hole in it as well I haven't stolen anything sense I was 10 years old from toysrus in Salem you would think they would be a little more precise when they accuse someone like make sure they go down the show isle first which I never went down won't go back there is plenty of other thrift stores that won't accuse customers of stealing donated items I don't even have a theft on my record not on probation or parole no po and no open court cases either very disrespected by what she said and did it was very embarrassing in front of other customers as well as I go get in my Chrysler 300 2012 not a crook that's for sure

This isn't particularly cheaper than any other thrift store from my experience, but they do have some things I've never seen at any other thrift store.
It's a pretty big store with a LOT of clothes, if you have an hour you could totally get lost in there with all the stuff they have.
My only complaint is that it's not very well organized inside, it doesn't seem like there's one spot for any one item, it's just scattered across the store. But that's not really a big deal.

I have been going to Better Bargains consistently for about 4 years now, I proudly call Better Bargains my favorite thrift store and I always will. I bring a bag of clothes each time I visit to donate for a 30% off coupon, I never leave empty handed and I’m always so happy with what I found and the customer service.

This is one of my favorite thrift stores in Portland. Not picked over, reasonable pricing, and plenty of deep discounts. Bring a bag of clothes to donate and you get a significant discount off your entire purchase.
It's definitely not a secondhand boutique, you're going to want to clean your finds, and I skip the entire electronics section because they don't take returns. If you're willing to do some searching though, you can find amazing things... I once found a gorgeous steel-bonef corset from a reputable brand in perfect condition for 1/6 what it would cost new.
The furniture here is definitely worth the trip! Some reviewers have said pieces are more expensive here. My guess is those people didn't notice that those pricey pieces are solid wood with some cosmetic issues, not particleboard from ikea. BB gets the real stuff from estate sales, don't be fooled!

Some people don't like this place because the owner can be rude but I usually have a pleasant shopping experience here. There was an altercation between her and a houseless woman on my most recent trip. The owner definitely should have handled it differently. She had pepper spray less than an inch from the lady's eyes. If she would have sprayed her, she would have done serious damage. She literally chased the houseless woman out of the store. I understand that the woman came in and changed her pants and got shoes when she had none so technically she was stealing, but really the store operates on donations so they weren't really out anything. I just think the owner could have handled it much better. But, she didn't. I still shopped and really it wasn't a complete deal breaker. Nothing went horribly wrong, no one got hurt, and in ther end, the lady DID get new pants and shoes. I was pleased with my purchases as usual.

I see people carrying bookbags and wearing shoulder bags upon entry, however when I walk in with a backpack, I'm told they aren't allowed in the store. Sure, can I leave it at the counter? Nope they're just not allowed in. I'm carrying my helmet as well, I rode a motorcycle, where am I going to put it lol. My backpack identifies as a bookbag is it alright now? Not like it matters I won't be back.

Bought a coffee maker for $16. Brought it home and plugged it in. It turned on just fine, so I filled it with vinegar and water to clean it. Set it to brew and waited. And waited. It never heated up. I tried missing around with it. It's nothing fancy, the settings are simple, so there's not many combinations of buttons to try, and none of them worked. After thirty minutes of waiting to see if it was just slow, I gave in and admitted to myself that it's just a piece of junk and a waste of money. I wish Better Bargains had actually tested the damn thing before putting it on their shelf. The sign at the register said they don't accept any returns so I'm not even going to bother. I would have been better off buying a cheap new one instead of wasting my time and money.
Be wary of buying any appliances here.
Edit: To add insult to injury, I have since found a brand new one for under $10. Feeling incredibly frustrated and cheated.

I love to get collage materials from here! Definitely a place where you have to hunt for stuff, but there are pretty frequent good finds.
