I went to this place back in 2018 and again in 2023 and it's still great. I love the large book selection and the laid back atmosphere. You can really wonder through and search for a good book. I hope the place is still around when I visit Portland again.Good playboy selection also. ?

They were able to help me sell a magazine collection. Very pleasant to deal with.

i love bingo books. when i went to the neighboring highschool i would visit almost every lunch period. i could probably visit every day for the rest of my life and never be able to look through everything. whatever you're looking for, you'll find it here, and more. im particularly in love with the comic, magazine, and psychology sections. the staff have always been helpful and nice but for the most part keep to themselves so you can browse to your hearts content.

I adore coming. It’s a chaotic lovely magical place with wonderful stories hidden inside. The pricing is more than fair, there are treasures all around. I usually come here first when I’m needing books and want to find something unexpected for my collection. Highly recommend.

Books, books, books everywhere; I could spend days exploring and still unique titles; inventory is very diverse, seemingly limitless, and interesting for every type of reader.

**NEVER** SELL YOUR BOOKS HERE!At best you'll get a few pennies on the dollar for them. After my husband died suddenly and unexpectedly, I had to sell his collection of adult magazines, comics, and books. I brought in over $3000 worth of material in three huge trunks, and ended up with only $190 in cash. I even told the guy that my husband had just died, and that we really needed the money. Sadly, he took that opportunity to take advantage of us.Today, I looked up just one of the book titles, and it is selling for $150 on Amazon. ?Just ONE BOOK, out of dozens in the trunks--not to mention the dozens of graphic novels, hundreds of vintage comics, and hundreds of adult magazines and videos. My son and I were ROBBED, when we were the most vulnerable we have ever been.I will NEVER do business here again, and if you value integrity and getting a fair shake, you won't either!

Flexible with prices, super comfy and nostalgic! Great CDs and magazines! I don't understand why people are upset about the clutter, I honestly love it.

I generally try not to write reviews based on service, but this one really was not my favorite. So, the owner is a grumpy old man who stares at you the whole time, which imo, is standard for an independent book store. Nothing too unusual there. What did start to annoy me was that said dude cannot do math. Not only did he miscalculate (twice), he did so confidently and does not want to hear how to actually take 25% off. Also, this shop is on Groupon, and when I showed him my voucher he just said he doesn't know what that is and refused to take it. He also asked me to step out of line while I played with my phone, which I was happy to do (even though it did not solve said Groupon problem), but there was no line. I just moved to the empty space adjacent to the other empty space where I had previously been standing and tried to look apologetic. It's sad, because this store does have a rather impressive collection of used books, and I'm sure it would be a fun hunt for collectors.

This place while dirty is the fun kind of bookstore where you can find unique items if you're willing to hunt a bit. I went in to look for movies (DVDs and Blu Rays) which they had in abundance with a surprisingly varied selection with Blu rays that had come out in the last year to DVDs from decades ago and a sizable VHS section. Unfortunately, all are overpriced. Most of the DVDs were being sold for $4-5 and the Blu-Rays were $7+ which for used items is just too expensive. The pricing was made worse when I did check some discs and most were heavily scratched and I even found one that was just a copied DVD-R of the movie in the official DVD case, still priced at $5 though. I really wanted to like this place and there were easily 10-15 different movies I would have purchased but at the prices they charged for items in just fair condition, it just not worth it.

This store is littered with books and other items that sell. nothing is neatly displayed or organized just looked like i walked into a warehouse of book horaders with 2 staffs in sight. upon bringing in a book i wanted to sell (in great condition) and get rid of i approached a much older(white) man sitting at his computers desk and greeted him informing him id like to sell a book. In a matter of 4 seconds this man quoted me $0.25 for the book The 48 Laws of Power. A single quarter. so i questioned him back saying. "Really? A quarter? you're not going to even inspect it?" As i expected like all book stores that purchase books, his irritated generic response was we always get that and people wanting to sell that book. So hearing the tone in his voice and watching his eyes roll at me after i question a $0.25 offer. I asked him, "so do you offer everyone that brings in this book the same price of a quarter for thier copy of that book or you just giving me that offer since im here wanting to sell and get rid of it?" he slightly raises his voice repeating himself like i done something to him to purposely offend him or as if my presence alone wasnt welcomed. this man had nothing but attitude towards me within the minute i approached his desk. i told him upon leaving. i didnt need none of his attitude all ive done was ask him a few questions. Now I'm not going to assume any of this man's prejudices but whatever his name is. he clearly lacks the ability to provide decent customer service regardless of what the price could have been for that book. I will admit i felt discriminated against since I a person of color walked into that business looking to sell a book. I truly believe if my skin complexion matched his that whole minute i experienced would now have started nor ended the way that it did. i truly hope other read these reviews and advise them to not even considers visiting this place. Of course i wont be returning to that business but to the older man of that that business... you sir really need to work on how you talk to and address people. Period.

Asked on the phone about cash trade in for books, the man on the phone was rude and simply said “Very little, mostly trade credit” I asked him to elaborate and he hung up on me. What a complete joke of customer service. Not to mention the store is a complete mess and hard to navigate, as well as other’s boxes being mixed in they have little to no organization to their store at all. I would NOT recommend.

I’ve been here so many times and could spend hours here! I see a lot of people saying it’s messy - there’s a lot of books, what do you expect? More for you to look through ;) it’s also nice to not have the front end people talk your ear off. Highly recommend!
