If I could give this place 10 stars I would. This one of my favorite Portland businesses and is hands down my favorite local bike shop.I have steel and aluminum gravel bikes that need servicing throughout the year. When I first moved to Portland, I relied a lot on larger shops like River City Bicycles. After finding the Golden Pliers I am not going anywhere else. The experience could not be more different than the larger shops in all of the best ways.1. This is the best service you'll find in town. The folks here do an amazing job speaking with you about your bike, explaining the mechanics, and answering any and all questions with kindness and patience. No gatekeeping here. Every time I've brought a bike in with an issue, they've taken the time to walk me through the entire process of fixing it. As a hands-on learner with limited bike knowledge, this has been a huge learning experience.2. Every time I bring a bike in, someone stops what they are doing and starts chatting with me about what I need. Every single time, they have put my bike on the stand and sent me on my way with all the work I needed done in a short time frame.3. Huge wealth of knowledge among all of the folks here. I've seen them servicing everything from brand new full-suspension mountain bikes to old steel racing bikes. I'm confident I can bring anything here and it will be taken care of.4. Price structure is very affordable and transparent.5. The vibes can't be beat. Beer, coffee, records, product collaborations, and art. Such a beautiful and well-made space. This place inspires you to spend more time on your bike. Well done to everyone there.

This shop did an incredible job fixing up and tuning my old 70’s racer bike. It needed some new tires, chain, brakes and overall tune up. But what I was most impressed with was how the mechanic talked with me about what was working for me on the bike and what wasn’t. He adjusted the angle of my handlebars so they were more comfortable and safer to ride. My bike now handles smoother than I’ve ever had it! I will definitely be coming back, and recommending this shop to all my fellow bike friends. ?

By far the best shop in town. The folks who work here are kind, courteous, and knowledgable. When I have hard-to-diagnose issues that other shops can't solve, I can always count on Golden Pliers. Not only do they know their stuff, they care about the community. They host workshops, let folks hang out and work hard to ensure everyone feels comfortable in their space.Simply cannot say enough nice things and I am so thankful Portland has a shop like Golden Pliers! Keep up the great work!!!!!!!

l have brought my bike here since I moved to this neighborhood. But I recently brought my bike in because the rear wheel was shaking and not true. I also needed help indexing my gears. They told me they would diagnose it because it could be a number of things. They ended up replacing the rear tire and wheel, cassette, and a brake pad and charged me $300. When I got home I realized the wheel set didn’t match the bike, and I asked that they put my original wheel set and cassette on my bike. They did this and refunded me $138. My bike rides fine now —meaning the only thing wrong was the tire. Yet this cost me $162 to repair. I will not be returning to this shop.Edit: While I appreciate the shop’s reply, my rim isn’t bent. The shop just didn’t notice the tire was the issue before they replaced everything else. The fact is that my bike needed a single tire at a cost of ~$15-20. And my bike is still slipping on gears, so they didn’t even perform a solid tune up. I paid them $162. I will not trust this shop with my bike ever again. The impression I get is that they take advantage of people. Roll the dice if you want, but I’m done as a customer.

Kevin and crew did an amazing job on the build they did for me. They kept me abreast of their progress and had it completed sooner than anticipated. Everything is dialed in and rolling perfectly. Highly recommend these guys for any bike service/builds. Thanks!

I’ll just add to the heap here.Great service/vibes. My bike was pretty beat up when I took it in. With some new bits and a LOT of elbow grease, Kevin and crew got it sorted and it rides like a dream again!

Could not recommend this place enough. I came in here after my bike was stolen. Originally, I was thinking of buying a bike online and having it assembled in this store. Fortunately they had a bike for sale! When I took what I would later name "The Laser" on a test ride the seat wouldn't go high enough for me to fully feel comfortable while riding. The shop manager, Becky, helped me by installing a new post, and a couple other gadgets, such as a new heavier duty lock, oof. I didn't feel like they at all wanted to sell to me, instead I felt like the staff was there to teach me and understand my situation. Hey t was extremely non intimidating, which is a huge relief!I've been taking The Laser to work every day for the last 3 months. Thank you Golden Pliers!!!
