About Hollywood Theatre
Hollywood Theatre is considered one of the best and greatest independent movie theaters in Portland, a historical landmark worth preserving. It provides an unbeatable, charming old-school atmosphere with chill vibes and a passionate community. The theater’s programming is wonderful, featuring a great selection of popular and indie features, often shown in 35mm and 70mm on a huge, curved screen for a superb viewing experience. It is one of two locations in Oregon regularly projecting 70mm film, maintaining a permanent archive. The sound system is impressive, yielding a thoroughly pleasurable and 10/10 experience. The friendly staff contribute to the excellent visit. Concessions offer decent and pretty good beer, excellent pizza, and wonderful popcorn with real butter. Prices for tickets and concessions are fair and cheaper than mainstream cinemas. A noted negative is that the upstairs concessions line can take forever with one register, suggesting going downstairs instead. For popular showings, the theater often sells out, so arriving early is advised for good seats, though advanced tickets allow skipping the line. Street parking is limited, so taking public transportation is a potential alternative. The theater is usually very clean and highly recommended to both locals and visitors, with encouragement to donate to help keep it running.
