Lady who was working today 06/12 was very rude didn’t say hello, acknowledge me while I was in the store, and when I said goodbye she didn’t say anything. Cute store but the customer service ruined the experience.
Edit: based off of other customer reviews if you are a person of color they don’t greet you, which makes sense since I am a brown person. To the lady who works there shame on you for making other people feel this way.

The customer service from this company is outstanding. I had a small problem with a simply beautiful kendogi that I ordered and it was resolved immediately. The quality of work in my garment shows. Fran reached out to me even on a Sunday to make sure that I was completely satisfied. ありがとう

Came in here in a small group and overheard the staff talking about “keeping an eye” on us. Was going to buy some of their beautiful handmade items but decided against supporting a business that assumes certain patrons are shoplifting based on their looks.

This is a beautiful shop with so many wonderful items from Japan. I loved walking around the shop several times still finding new items I had not seen each time. The decor and ambiance of the shop is warm and inviting and the owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. I look forward to visiting again on my next trip to Portland. Thank you!

This was my second time in here and probably my last time. The last time I was here was about two years ago when I was visiting from out of state. I wanted to write a review then, but decided to not say anything and just tell myself I was overreacting and to shake it off and let it go. I had the same experience today as I did then, and decided to not stay quiet this time. Apparently, only certain people are greeted while entering the store. And certain people are told thank you on the way out of the store. Not a big deal but it is noticable. The rest of us however, are watched and stared at by the clearly never taught any manners in there life staff. I saw this happen to multiple people while in there. Because apparently, the rest of us are stealing, right? Again, if you look a certain way the staff will be nice and smile. If not, you will be treated like a bum on the street who wandered in to steal, while looking at $200 jeans and $400 jackets made from old used fabric scraps. It also smells very weird in there. Like an old musty room that hasn't been occupied in 40 years. Yes, there are cool one of a kind items there, but it wouldn't feel right buying an item that 5 minutes before you were getting the evil eye for looking at.. don't believe me? Think I'm being dramatic? Go see for yourself.
I've seen mentioned in other reviews, the judgement and staring from staff members.. not many reviews but there out there, probably because people are to afraid to speak up and say something. You'd think they would read these reviews and learn from them and change there ways. Clearly that is not happening. I am absolutely all for supporting small businesses. But not ones that treat each and every customer differently instead of equally. I highly suggest you think about that before shopping at this store.

The first time I stopped in this shop in Portland on vacation, I was blown away by the care & attention to detail in their clothing pieces. After 8 months of consistent wear, my husbands shirt still looked fantastic. I ordered several more pieces from the company online. Evidently, a couple of their items were sold out or had an issue with the listing, and I was unreachable. I received a prompt refund and a nicely handwritten note in the box detailing the issues with my order and a formal apology. This company’s customer service is incredible, and I’m a very happy customer.

This shop is simply amazing. Books and textiles, gifts for self and others. Always intriguing to browse. Well worth it for quality and unique goods.

I like this store! They've curated items from Japan just like a museum would curate things, but they're not just for display, although their displays in store are still pretty cool! But these include clothing items, daily necessities, teaware, and so much more! Plus, the way everything is laid out in store is really fun to walk around! Honestly, I came pretty close to buying something, but the thing preventing me was the lack of space in my backpack. Definitely a place to hit up! My words don't do this place justice!

Gorgeous though pricey. I really enjoyed spending time looking at the vintage Japanese textiles mixed with "Western".
