I've been shopping here for a couple of years now. I used to think this was just another 'bougie' store on NW 23rd since there are plenty of those. I'll admit the customer service wasn't so warm or welcoming a few years ago. But over the last two years, I've had nothing but stellar experiences shopping or frequently just windowshopping here. Max and Paul are both wonderful to work with. They go out of their way to find the perfect selections and they let me shop without putting pressure on me to purchase anything. Finally the clothes are fantastic. They're not cheap but the quality is excellent. I definitely will keep coming back here!

Felt like I needed to write a review after seeing multiple submissions regarding customer service. Absolutely love their STANDOUT and personalized attention, Paul and Max always take great care of me. Certainly my favorite Marine Layer shop across the country. They have become a small piece of my wife and I’s Portland community and neighborhood. Thanks guys!

My husband and I had the best experience here on Friday May 24th. We both found several pieces that fit us perfectly. The shop attendant was a joy to be around - the perfect blend of helpfulness and not hovering. They gave us great recommendations, they were kind and funny. They even helped my husband find, order and ship a piece they didn’t have in stock at this store and it’s already arrived. We live really rurally so shopping for clothing in an actual store rather than ordering online is a rare treat. It was so fun to actually try things on and talk about them with someone so attentive and friendly. Thank you!

Marine Layer is a nice little clothing store. It was my first time visiting the shop, and I wasn't that impressed with the designs of the clothing. Don't get me wrong, they were cute and all, but they were giving off beachy vibes or middle-class Caucasian family vibes. The customer service wasn't that welcoming or anything; they were just talking amongst themselves. If you're ever in need of an article of everyday basic clothing, this is a good place to start.

The sales clerk was very friendly and even noticed that the men’s XL jacket I was buying seemed small so he went in the back and brought another one up front and sure enough the first jacket was mislabeled! Very thankful for his thoughtfulness and expertise!

Here things look very beautiful and very neat both boys and girls have many types of fan t shirts, shirts, salwar. They are quite attractive to look at and are some of the designs that grab people's attention. I see you have a lot of bad comments here which are completely inaccurate which is very harmful for your business and many good reviews are coming. Your business type service is very nice.

Terrible customer service. Came specifically to try on things for size and was told that the store was closed because they didn’t have Wi-Fi access. When I explained that I just wanted to try on things for size so I could order online I was greeted with the same response. Employee in the store was seated eating a bagel and talked to me through a closed door through which I could barely hear what he was saying. Didn’t even bother to come to the door and have a conversation to explain things. Will be buying elsewhere

Went in with my kids, I was never greeted or acknowledged but my kids were glared at and even made them uncomfortable! Does anyone remember when customer service was a thing? I spent the money I would have spent here by purchasing online from a store in a different state that I know values my business.

Long haired white guy working on New Year's Eve was very rude to a homeless man to the point that I left the store and bought nothing. When you're representing a business, it's a much worse look to be unprofessional and actively nasty to homeless people than it is to just let them sit outside and smoke a cigarette. You don't know where your customers' families came from by looking at them, and public compassion goes a lot farther than whatever... That was.
