The owners Tamara and Eric are amazing human beings; so kind, welcoming and down to earth. Tamara has been my stylist since I moved to Portland. I went to Vidal Sassoon in Boston for 15 years and wanted to find a hair salon that was just as good and I found it at Oranj. I always leave so happy with my hair and have such a great time talking with Tamara, the laughs are endless! I highly recommend Oranj for anyone looking for top notch service and results 😊

I had a scalp treatment, hair cut, and color with Melinda and it was uh-maaaazing. Melinda recently migrated north and landed at Oranj and her decades long hair experience made the whole appointment feel effortless. I'm always indecisive about my hair but she listened to my concerns and my desires and she really delivered. I like my length but my curls were falling flat so she gave me some layers that added the bounce I desperately needed. I also am struggling with postpartum hair loss and she recommended a scalp treatment which was relaxing and made my hair feel alive again. I wanted a pop of color but nothing too wild because I have some weddings coming up and of course I was concerned about my hair thinning. We added a soft reddish brown around my face and she eased my worries by keeping the color off of my scalp. Overall, my hair is feeling alive and is finally thriving. Also the space was well curated with a great selection of records, an intriguing collaborative art display, a cute second hand retail shop in the back, and plenty of things to sip on during our long appointment. The Oranj salon owners were also in the studio and they were so sweet and welcoming. I'll definitely be back!

I found Oranj by seeking out experienced, knowledgeable, and creative hair artists. Melinda gave me a much needed fresh new look with a well blended layered shag cut and urged me to explore color. She really listened to what I was looking for and provided wise ideas taking my aesthetic and hair care habits into account. This woman did BRILLIANTLY! I am not one to change my color often at all, but I trusted Melinda and her competency in advice and I’m SO glad I did!!! We went with a warmer copper tone that worked well with my roots, skin tone, and eye color. This was subtle enough to brighten and renew my look without requiring high maintenance or agressive change. We tinted my eyebrows as well, which was new for me, but completely landed my look. Thank you Mel!!!
I’m not one to be super chatty during hair cuts, pedicures, etc. but Melinda was really easy to connect with and conversation felt natural.
This studio is very chic and comfortable with great energy from staff and decorative art. Fun tip: they play vynal records every Saturday! The lux chairs and space made me feel famous. I could not have found a better experience! Big fan of Oranj, specifically Melinda Miller-Ryder. Book her soon, cuz she’s a popular and talented one.

WOW!! I just got the best haircut I've ever had! Melinda is the absolute Best ever! I've struggled for years to get a haircut I even liked let alone loved like this. My hair was always a challenge for other stylist to not only do what I asked for but to even get any good suggestions from. Melinda asked questions I've never been asked (she genuinely wants to understand you and your style), made great suggestions that she then effortlessly executed (my completely unique haircut) but on top of it all she also had a genuine excitement for what she was doing making the entire experience fantastic. She made me feel like a rock star through the entire process! And, she's one of the coolest people you're ever going to meet. Don't miss your chance to have the same experience I just had. Melinda Miller-Ryder is the BEST! Coming from Andy Lecompte salon in Los Angeles she has a really elevated mastery of hair which is rare for Portland. Truly could not recommend her enough. She started out in Los Angeles with cutting hair and moved on to color so she really does it all and WELL.

What more could you ask for? Extremely talented hair stylists worth every penny due to their exceptional ability to frame your face with a flattering look, even if it is just a simple trim. And they do it with care and genuine interest in how you feel about your hair. Don't let the high end art gallery or uber cool surroundings intimidate you: these people are your tribe and they show it upon first entry and every visit thereafter. Love Oranj studio. And Steven is the best!! I've been seeing Steven for ages, and now he's also cutting my 15yo daughter's hair. I love that if I get busy and can't get in for a while, he styles and colors so well that they grow out well and I can get away with it. He's legit talented.

Absolutely thrilled to share my experience at Oranj! This salon is a hidden gem down in Portland's South Waterfront, and it's clear that their incredible team is the reason why. Each stylist brings their own unique specialty to the table, making it one of the most well-rounded salons in town.
From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Eric & Brett work magic with precision mens cuts, truly transforming my look with a level of artistry that you just don’t find everywhere. Steven & Audrey are color geniuses; their skill in blending and highlighting left my husband's hair looking vibrant and natural. And Tamara has a gift for styling that can turn any ordinary day into a special occasion. We even take our teenage nephew there and he was so happy (he typically hates haircuts!).
