Quaint & friendly shop for grocery essentials and healthy/vegan options. Probably not a one-stop-shop, but there's enough for most quick trips.

If they were legit and a co-op of the people, when their members voted to allow meat to be sold in the market, they would have followed through and provided at the very least frozen meat from local farmers. A much smaller co-op in Brooklyn is capable of this, but when asked why People's doesn't sell meat, all you will get is a litany of excuses. Democracy has no place here. Masks are still required in mornings years after the pandemic. I couldn't care less if someone working there wants to wear a mask, but unless the State is mandating masks I feel like this policy goes way too far for customers. During the pandemic this was appropriate but no longer. The produce is very good, bulk grains and other food stuffs great prices and good quality. Canned foods and other products are very high priced. There's eggs and milk, but at outrageous prices. With inflation, even people who eat meat should have a local market that can provide bulk meats from local purveyors at reasonable prices. People's fails to provide some of the most basic foods.

My daughter who lives in Seattle then I drove all the way from St Helens Oregon to Portland in an area near Milwaukee to find this wonderful wonderful store that just has everything any health person could ever want and perfectly clean and you can choose how much you want by putting in bags or in little cartons that they have to put liquids in and we got the most beautiful good food and a coupon for discount on next purchase

I have been shopping at People's since 2011. They consistently offer the best produce in Portland. The staff is always exceptionally kind, educated and informative. Don't be fooled by the size of the place, their bulk section is spectacular! Every Wednesday they have a year round Farmer's Market - definitely check it out!

The people's food co-op Farmers market is the close-knit of local vendors who provide a vast array of organic products. Everyone always has a smile on their face year-round. I always walk away with a bounty. Go check them out it's worth your time. They're there every Wednesday from 2 to 7 p.m.

If you are going to position yourselves as caring about community, then why aren’t you requiring masks any longer? It is a contradiction. You can’t cave into anti masker’s social pressures and pretend like you actually care about the community after that. Community care involves ALL members of the community.

I absolution love the CO-OP! My partner and I are members here, and when we can't make it to the farmers market, we'll come here to buy the local and organic food. They also have some other non food products as well. We love to buy the produce plants to bring home for our garden. The staff is wonderful, helpful, and kind! The store itself is clean and welcoming! This place is great when you want to buy quality items while still supporting local businesses.

Oh man do I love Portland's food scene! The trucks in particular, are a joy! You can try every continent's food right in one parking lot.I know better, but this time, as it was my first day at a new job so I don't know what's around me, I ordered at the window of one of the trucks, rather than calling my order in. Mistake! As I know, custom cooked food takes time! I just didn't know, as it was my first time.Had GREAT shawarma, the "number 20" falafel plate. The falafel was freshly made and fried.b The rice was well flavored, and the hummus was a bit bland (could use a splash of fresh lemon juice, and maybe a sprinkle of coarse salt on top?), But the Zatar was a nice addition! The cucumber dressing was fresh, the spicy sauce was delicious and not nearly hot enough, but that's because I'm a spice hunting moron! Most people would think it's HOT!All in all, a good first experience, and knowing what I know, I'm gonna call my order in ahead of time to all the trucks from now on!

Summertime rolls...Jane's Addiction harmony in my head On a holiday in the sun like Weezer in the lovely Pacific NW in the Summertime decided to do a yatra aka pilgrimage to People's Co-op. I lived walking distance from People's Co-op circa 2004 where I lived right across from the now defunct all vegan coffeeshop aka Red and Black. In 2004-2005 I was a working member cleaning the bulk bins as my seva aka service. This is where I first started teaching yoga at the community room upstairs at People's Co-op. Dusty started the program that sadly is no longer currently active. They had some great classes there and have fond memories of a Iyenger influenced yoga teacher that taught classes I liked. This was when I was teaching classical hatha yoga and had not yet shifted my yoga teaching to the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition. Fast forward to the moment of Jun 20223. It's the return and went to People's Co-op. It still is an amazing place. They have a farmer's market here every Wed. Their bulk selection is amazing (see my photos) and so is there produce. Friendly and helpful staff. Afterwards go to Belmont for heaps of plant based, vegetable forward, tasty, amazing vegan restaurants and food trucks that are amazing. Vegan bars, vegan food trucks, innovative vegan restaurants like Fermenter, and more that will satisfy all folks who follow whatever diet from vegan to paleo to gluten-free to omnivore.

People's is one of the most compact co-ops I've been to, and yet, I find everything I need.I spend most of my time here with their bulk products.Their looseleaf tea options are wonderful.

I've had a membership for a few years. I mostly buy produce and bulk items, so I appreciate that I can use my own containers.
Note: The store is currently vegetarian, but every year, they have a survey asking if they should sell meat.

Lovely market with great stuff!! The roasted hazelnut-chocolate-cherry trail mix was so awesome that i bought a bunch of it to gift to Hawaiʻi folks! Prices were good and systems solid. Great staff. Awesome deli items, especially the vegan items. I am not even vegan, but was blown away by the quality and taste. Great selection of bulk herbs and spices - I had to tear myself away!Membership is reasonable, worthwhile, and actually refundable. I was only passing through the area, but my month membership purchase has already paid for itself and i will not be asking for a refund! We good!I highly recommend this place!

Essence of Portland.Organic, raw, vegan, dairy alternatives, locally crafted, eco conscious (bulk/byo bags, & containers for syrups, soaps, etc.).Great staff.Very pricey, but they have items you'd never find in a corporate superstore - like goat butter.?
