On my last trip to Portland, I wanted to take home donuts for my coworkers. I found Pip's through yelp and decided to check it out. From what I remember, we went less than hour before closing. We went inside, and there was a line. So I guess that's how you know it's good! We waited maybe 20 minutes in line. I got two dozen and tried each of their donuts. Their donuts were definitely good. We got them warm and fresh. They also weren't too sweet. They're a bit small but the menu shows that from the start so it's not surprising. Overall, the donuts are great. Not the best, but still great. Worth a pit stop. I didn't get to try any of their drinks. But, that gives me another reason to come back next time I'm in the PNW.

Donuts + Portland, its a thing. Don't miss Pip's & Blue Star as well, but please skip Voodoo.. We decided to make a Friday morning through Saturday evening trip to Portland and spending a Friday morning working from Pip's was a logical choice. Made it in by around 9 am, grabbed a cozy spot in the corner and ordered 8 Lil donuts and a couple of chai lattes. The donuts are phenomenal, and their delicious chai is the perfect drink to wash it down. The whole space is cozy and homey, the staff is friendly, and I can't recommend it enough. Cheers!

Sometimes, on a rainy Sunday afternoon, there's nothing better than some hot chai and hot donuts. Apparently half of Portland thinks the same (see the pic). The line is out the door on Sundays, and you'll have to wait around 50 minutes to get donuts. There were probably 35 people in front of us when we got there at 3pm, and since the donuts are made to order, you'll have to wait after you get them. Also, at 330pm, they will make an announcement that the store is closing at 4 and all orders from then on will be to go. About the actual food: they have 5 flavors that always stay the same, and a seasonal flavor that rotates. If you buy 6, you can taste one of each! It's kind of expensive for how small they are, but they are unique. Hot donuts are rare -- but after eating these, it shouldn't be. The donuts are tiny, and they come out HOT. This is an innovation. They're so good when they're hot! The chai is an afterthought. But get any of the flavors, and eat them immediately. Don't try to savor them. Just put them in your mouth. The space feels very homey -- almost like your grandmother's house. The mugs are colorful, the chairs are all mismatched, the doors are flimsy and simple. I like it.

Of the three quintessential donut shops in Portland (Voodoo, Blue Star, and Pip's), Pip's is the best by far. Their mini donuts are made to order and are absolutely delicious. They're super airy on the inside and lightly crispy on the outside. I've tried Pip's a few times in college (my university would rent their mobile cart for campus events sometimes) and I was really craving the taste a few weeks ago. My partner's never tried Pip's before, so we decided to stop by the store for a bunch of donuts and chai. The line here is annoyingly long, albeit expected for how popular and delicious Pip's is. We came on a Sunday around 3 pm (they close at 4), and there was a 20+ person line. Luckily, the line moved quicker than I expected (around 20-25 minutes), and we were able to get our cute little donuts within 10 minutes of ordering. If you're in a hurry or trying to stop by Pip's before a flight home, however, don't. I particularly enjoy the Dirty Wu donut, which is their original cinnamon sugar donut with nutella and honey. It's my favorite since you get to try most of what they offer (minus their seasonal flavor and associated toppings) in one donut. In short, Pip's is the truth in the void - check it out!

Great doughnuts here!! I really love the mini size and the fact that they don't sit heavy in the stomach is a plus. We got a plate of 12 (2 of each flavor) to share, which was a good amount. (Ended up taking the last 4 home.) My favorites were the raw honey, original cinnamon sugar, and seasonal marionberry lavender. The interior is cute and photogenic. We came in on a Tuesday early afternoon and I was surprised at how busy it was for such a random time. (Speaks for how good the doughnuts are!) Even with a bit of a line, it only took about 10-15 combined minutes to wait, order, and receive our treats. I also appreciated how they asked customers to please get a real plate instead of a to go box first in order to cut down on unnecessary boxes. Will definitely be back when I'm craving!!

One of the best donuts i ever tried. Small small and crispy. My favorite was sea salt one. Not too sweet and taste very good. Flight of tea was nice experience but not all of 5 you will like. Depends on person. Although it is little too costly. $15 for the flight but still you don't get such options anywhere else and tea taste good. Tried to go here on labor day but it was closed. So tried it at last moment , just before reaching back to Portland airport to fly back for phoenix. My favorite was smoky and ginger ones. Must try in Portland. They are really unique.

Long line but it went by quickly. I waited maybe 20ish minutes from line out the door to ordering. -maple bacon: bacon bits mixed in maple syrup to form a paste - it's tasty! -wild blue (or was it black) berry: so so good! It's a flavor of the month so... I hope they bring it back. Slightly tart but the sweet after notes worked well on the little nuggets. -Nutella: very basic. Just pure Nutell on top of the doughnuts. -honey sea salt: too ordinary. Good to try to see what the hype is all about but mehh - I've had better! Service was great! They're all so friendly. -cinnamon sugar: also very basic

I had multiple friends recommend I stop by Pip's while I was in Portland and I was a little worried it wouldn't live up to the hype, but it absolutely did + more!! It's such a cute little place with a small town feel and you can tell the food and drinks are made with so much thought and care. There's always a bit of a line so give yourself time to stand in line and then enjoy your fresh donuts afterwards. We ended up getting one of each kind and you can't go wrong with any of them! They're little and bite sized and perfectly cooked. Some donuts are too sweet for me but these ones were perfectly balanced. My favorites were the nutella, and the bacon one! I also absolutely love chai so was excited that there were so many options. If I was with more people I would have tried the flight, but opted for just an iced spiced chai and it was amazing!

My first time here, and this place is a revelation. A lot of non-PDX people talk about Voodoo, but take it from me: if you want a real, homemade doughnut, excellently fried and well anointed with homemade sugary joy, this is the place for you. The maple bacon doughnut, for example, had an excellent salty bacon taste imbedded in a sweet saucy exterior. I'm not usually a fan of your standard bacon doughnut, but this was great. The doughnuts themselves are small (get 6, treat yourself!), but fierce. The raw honey is delicious, fruit and Nutella spreads wonderful, and fry perfectly golden. Also, go for the taster tray of chai. I recommend iced, especially since it's going to be a hot one this week, and take your time sipping through each tiny bite. This was really great, and I can't wait to come back!

Pip pip hooray!! They always have a line, but for good reason because their donuts and chai are delicious! We ordered 3 dozens of mini donuts (2 to take back to LA). Every single donut was really delicious! My favorites were the chocolate and powdered sugar ones. For the chai lattes, we ordered the Smoky Robinson and Ginger Rodgers. I preferred the Smoky Robinson, but both were great. Even after bringing the donuts back to LA, they were still good the next day!

Ones have got to love the crispy, airy texture of Pip's newly fried donuts! They're so light that you'd already have eaten a dozen before you realized it. Didn't get to try any of the Chai this time but we got to sample each and everyone of the flavors available: Dirty Wu, Nutella with Sea Salt, Sugar Cinnamon, Raw Honey with Sea Salt, Maple Bacon, and Apricot Jam with Powdered Sugar (a seasonal flavor). The Dirty Wu and Nutella tasted the same to me, nutella-ey. The Maple Bacon was way too savory for me. The Raw Honey didn't taste much of anything, sadly. My favorites were the Cinnamon Sugar and the seasonal flavor. The Cinnamon Sugar takes you down memory lane and the Apricot was just down right amazing. Would love to be back to try the chais there soon. Hopefully, the line won't be as bad next time

Arrived at 1050 am on a Sunday and finally got to eat the donuts at 1150. Worth the wait if you have time. A must stop for some delicious mini donuts! Got my free birthday dozen! And more to go. Love coming here to get the seasonal flavors and Chai drinks if I'm in the mood. They even have a secret menu- ask the staff what they are. Not sure if they change it up or not. Get their punch cards available! We go ours to-go and ate them down the street (pizza place has benches outside). Great idea if u have a big group and seating is limited. Street parking available. Go get some!

The staff was nice, the line was long! They should should have people taking orders not just at the counter seems they are made to order. There were a few people that walked away because if the line, revenue lost, not good!

Easily one of the best donut places in Portland. Everything is amazing. Always a long line but that comes with a great place like this. I would say it’s a better experience than VooDoo.
August 2019 by Carly Lehner
The line is worth it. I've been coming to Pip's since 2012 and love their made-to-order donuts. Their seasonal flavours are always great and I'm a big fan of all of their chais!

Very good fresh donuts. First place we tried in Portland and didn't disappoint. Easy to eat a dozen!! Had 5 topping options when we went but wish they had some more or different flavor/ toppings. Also not sure these would be as good if you didn't eat them fresh. Definitely recommend as long as you eat them freshly made.

Bye Voodoo, bye Blue Star, PIP'S IS WHERE IT'S AT! These bite-sized doughnuts are so cute, so delicious. They totally beat out the other two famed Portland doughnut places in my book. Doughnuts start at 4 for $4. But if you get a dozen it's $9, which is the best bang for your buck. I'm pretty sure they do not sell just single doughnuts. Because why. Only a monster would buy ONE SINGLE DOUGHNUT. In contrast, they even have a limit on how many doughnuts you can purchase: four dozen. Like, think about that for a sec. Their doughnuts are so good that people just come in here and buy 48 doughnuts!??! Their flavors are: Cinnamon Sugar, Raw Honey & Sea Salt, Nutella & Sea Salt, Candied Bacon Maple, the Dirty Wu (basically a combination of all the other flavors minus bacon), and a rotating seasonal flavor. When I visited, it was Black Cherry. My girlfriend & I tried all of the above and our favorites were the plain raw honey & the candied bacon. They were all so delectable! I'm not a fan of chai tea (too many spices if you ask me) but Pip's chai tea was amazing. Yes, you absolutely need to pair your doughnuts with their chai tea. All their chai is handmade in small batches & in-house! I definitely recommend the Chai Flight if you come with someone because WOW so many flavors and it's also super fun to try! It's 6 oz of each flavor (5) for $15. They even have a customized wood board for their flight so you know exactly which flavor is which. You can order it hot or iced - but they have to be either ALL hot or ALL iced. Even though it was a sunny day, we ordered it hot cause I feel like you can definitely get more aroma and flavor that way. Also, maximum comfort. It's hard to pick a favorite, cause they were all so good. The only one I did not love was the Smokey Robinson - chai tea made up of vanilla, cinnamon, clove, Assam tea & Lapsang Souchon. Pip's has dubbed it the "Campfire Chai", and while I personally did not like this one very much because it was TOO SMOKY, I can appreciate the fact that they've actually managed to capture that smoky campfire essence. If you like the taste of fresh smoke and getting a mouthful of pine tree scent, this is the one for you! Ok for the record, my friend did enjoy this one. Ginger Rogers - ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, molasses, Thai chile and Assam tea: This one's the "Spicy Chai". I loooved the way it set my throat on fire. Not sure if they use ginger syrup or fresh ginger, altho it felt like the latter cause there's that kick from the ginger. The ginger complemented the chai very well. The ideal sick day tea, if you ask me! Heart of Gold - coconut, turmeric, clove, cardamom, Assam & Genmaicha tea: I don't remember tasting very much coconut in this one but it was a solid chai tea. In fact, this one's probably the closest to "regular" chai tea you'd find in most cafes. King & I - cardamom, clove, anise, Thai tea: tasted so much like just Thai tea. Really good, especially if you're a fan of thai tea. I especially enjoyed the bold black tea flavor! Emmylou - lavender, chrysanthemum, chamomile, honey. There's no caffeine in this one! I feel a little like this one can't really be classified as chai tea cause there aren't any spices, but it was still delicious. The Emmylou was described as "very comforting", but honestly I found all their chai teas (sans the Smokey) to be very comforting. I definitely felt soothed. If I lived in Portland I would totally pick up a box of Pip's and a hot chai to-go, snuggle up with a blanket and pass out cause I've maxed out on comfort (and probably too many mini doughnuts). I suppose it's a good thing I don't live in Portland.

I have nothing bad to say about Pips. They have delicious fresh, fried balls of heaven. Not only do they have their normal flavors including Nutella, the dirty Wu, and cinnamon sugar, they also have a monthly rotating flavor. They're reasonably priced and on your birthday (up to six days after) you get a FREE dozen donuts! Their chai teas are also nice. They have five different flavors and if you're indecisive like myself you can get a (hot or iced) chai flight! Admittedly none are my favorite chai tea but they are nice and pair well with the donuts.

Amazing donuts and Chai. Best place in all of PDX!!
August 2019 by Andrew A.
Seems like there's never not a line. Portland is quickly cementing itself as a donut mecca, Pip's is one of the marquee spots. Their donuts are like no other, not my favorite, but very appealing. Besides the wonderful sugary fried bread is probably the best chai in the city. Prices aren't crazy, the service is very friendly, and the atmosphere is very appealing. Unfortunately, the wait kills it for me so I only go with out-of-town visitors.

You had me at doughnuts! These are mini doughnuts and are made to order so they come out hot. You can order 4, 6, 8, 12 and up to 4 dozen. We tried all the flavors they had on their menu and then doubled up on a few. My favorite was candied bacon maple and the dirty wu. Love that they are mini so you can try several and they are so light and not at all oily. The wait was about 5 minutes after ordering but the line started to form immediately after we ordered so expect to wait but worth it. If you come in your birthday or within 7 after you get a free dozen.

OMG! They are amazing! So light and delicious! And the topping are so tasty! But the cinnamon and sugar ones are simply the best! And definitely worth the long wait in line!

Adorable place with super yummy donuts! Go get some and try all of their flavors! They are all good, but try the bacon one for something fun and good!

The best donuts in town, and sweet, friendly service! Also, no overcharges for non dairy milk in your drink!! Thank you Pip's!

Gosh. I miss this place dearly and am considering moving up near here just so I can have chai and donuts whenever I want. I love the flight. Get it if you haven't tried any of the flavors. I cannot wait for my next trip up. I'll need to make sure I come here more than once the next time we are back. They are simply the best chai and donuts you'll ever have on the west coast. Price great, quality superb. Don't ever change please.

You had my heart at chai & donuts. This beautiful gem serves a wide selection of mini donuts all fried to order & paired with coffee/chai. The donuts include candied maple bacon, cinnamon, raw honey, and more. They taste fresh, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. For the chai selection, you can chose from a herbal flavor to a smoky, spicy drink. I went on a Saturday morning and the place was packed. It took about 30-45 minutes to wait in line and receive the order. Seating is very limited inside so you may need to take the donuts on the road. + If you go within +/- 7 days of your birthday, you get a whole dozen of donuts for FREE!

Pips didn’t disappoint, our twin girls loved their first donuts on their first birthday!!! Wonderful atmosphere & staff! Plus the raspberry donut was outstanding
July 2019 by Adam P.
Went here around 10:30 AM on a Sunday. The donuts are made to order and very fresh. The donuts are all the same base with different toppings. The flavors are good and the drinks are also delicious. Now for the reason for the 2 star review. Although Pips has an unbelievable business and we had to wait almost an hour to get our donuts they lost a significant amount of business while we waited with people deciding to go elsewhere. There are several efficiency items that could be carried out, first there is only 1 register and the person running it was also doing other duties. They should at least have 2-3 registers with dedicated cashiers. Next due to the way these donuts are made and the number of customers they should make them continuously with more staff. This will allow the line to move much faster and keep the line moving. Overall decent donuts but with the number of shops in the area not worth the wait, it would be real easy to improve the efficiency so I hope the owners take this advice!

Pip's is where it's at if what you're looking for are delicious donuts, tasty chai, and a cool AF interior space to enjoy your goodies in! Lines are long but super quick. There are plenty of tables inside and a bench seating by the register counter. Two bathrooms are located in the back and clean up is self service. Don't forget to come by during the 7 days before and after your birthday as you will get a free dozen! I love how gracious they are with their time frame! The Heart of Gold Chai is the bomb. The perfect balance of cream, coconut, sweetness, and spice. Will definitely be back to try more flavors!

If you're going to stand in line for donuts in Portland, the only place that's worth it is Pip's. The donuts are fresh. The flavors amazing (how do they pack so much into such tiny morsels?). And the price? For what some places charge for a donut or two, you get a dozen mini-donuts that offer so much more.
