The store itself was good. However, when ordering food, it was not easy at all. First, we were told to order in the dining section. Then, the dining section told us we needed to order at the front deli counter. I ordered borscht and stuffed cabbage rolls and tried to order Pierogies but was told I needed to go back to the dining section to order the Pierogies. The borscht and cabbage rolls came cold, and when we went back to order the Pierogies, they said that you can, in fact, order hot borscht in the dining section lol ... We ordered one order of potato and cheese Pierogies but ended up getting two orders. One was potato, and the other was cheese. So when I checked my bank account, I was $25 for two orders of Pierogies when I only wanted one. At least the Pierogies were delicious All in all, the borscht and Pierogies were good. The cabbage rolls were not good, shriveled up and dry.

Probably the best ethnic Slavic food store on the west coast. I’ve been to many. They have many Ukrainian products, which is awesome, considering that Ukraine needs to produce and export while at war. They also have a good cafe.My only big recommendation is to offer home-made pelmeni and authentic blini. The kind they sell in the cafe are factory quality, which are by far not as good as hand/made.

Went with my dad here to get some salami and some other Russian stuff. My family is Russian and I am too fr so this was a pleasant experience. The cashiers were also very friendly in ringing us up quickly. We will return and btw they have a nice cafe inside for people to sit down in and drink their favorite coffee.

Very well organized and nice store, bakery items, fresh food. I really enjoyed the beef bbq kabobs they have. Nice Eastern European drinks. They also have a nice bakery and coffee shop with cakes and pastries. Ice creams are also good. Nice choice of breads. Good candies too. They also have fresh vegetables, I am amazed at how well the store is designed and how all the products are placed. There is also a pharmacy inside. Overall a nice experience, and really feels like you are in Eastern Europe/ Asia with all the unique choices and quality of customer service. Customer service is excellent, nice friendly staff, a must go to! For coffee/ groceries/ snacks and more!

Excellent homemade food, great choice of grocery, and a lovely family owned business that we have been frequenting since it opened 20+ years ago. Highly recommend. The family that runs this business were our neighbors for years and they’re incredibly nice.Get the Seabuck Thorn drink- completely eradicated my cold overnight.

Yuuge assortment of delicious frozen dumplings & pierogi ? and lots of veggie options to boots. The cafe inside also makes me feel like I’ve been transported to Russia and the eavesdropping is largely limited to Russian language only. Skip the crepes but the atmosphere covers any misgivings whatsoever. Big Hidden gem in Portland town.

Nice place with cafe and lots of great choices. We enjoyed our visit and my American husband wants to go there again)) haha ! Sure , we will visit it again soon :) We had so much food for lunch and lots of yummies from cafe for deserts with kiddos . They have an awesome books to read as well . The only thing it was ( not store fault ) - there were a young mom who was constantly yelling at her two small daughters. Be aware of such persons in Russian spanking "social" places . Even my kids were scared of her . Maybe placing a sign : "stop yelling at your kids at least in public places" would be helpful to keep the atmosphere warm ? Lol . Just an idea how can we remind others to be nice to their kids and other ppl .

I had a very bad experience with this place. Ordered traditional Russian cake Medovik. The price ($75) doesn't match quality at all. The taste was completely wrong from it supposed to be. My main complaint is that they use sour dairy products (it smelled very bad and have been expired for a long time), of course no one ate that birthday cake. Definitely need a better management, staff is untrained and not professional. You may enjoy some attitude from the cashier. Overall the place is dirty

Yum! Ordered delivery, had lamb dumplings and fricassee with chicken and mushrooms. So delicious, they even gave me some sour cream for the dumplings. It was soooooo good and fresh. I will definitely order again :)

My Ukrainian co-worker brought me two dishes from there: a beef and rice dish, and a chicken and potato dish. Amazing taste and textures! Go there and eat!

Good coffee and all sorts of interesting Eastern European goods. Not super friendly staff and sometimes unwelcoming, Could be a cultural thing I'm not understanding though and it's never made me feel like I didn't want to be there. There's a pharmacy too with lots of stuff that's hard to get without a doctor normally which potentially can save a lot of cash.

Recently when I was having my car windows tinted about a block from here, I decided to walk the neighbourhood and check out the shops for some interesting treat. While it was nice seeing all sorts of things I’ve never seen before, I was totally unwelcome and ended up not buying anything. I’m not sure what the situation was but all I got was stares from employee lady at the register as if I were going to be stealing from her or something. Lots of other international markets around the city that are way more friendly than this place who will even willingly offer up suggestions for new things to try out. If you like cranks, this is your place.

For anyone else on a quest for another version of “Herring Under a Fur Coat” over at Kachka (Lavka), look no further than the deli section of this cozy little store. You can snag a whole container filled with tasty Shuba for $8.99/lb and gorge to your heart’s content. (As an aside, their fried breads with the cabbage filling and the mashed potato filling were so-so. They’re quite scant on the fillings, so don’t go in expecting a piroshki or anything.)This is a small store that clearly exists to meet the needs of their community, so not everything is neatly and clearly labeled in English with a price tag, but don’t let that stop you from dropping by this authentic gem!
