Huge shoutout for Sheridan's! They were able to assist me with a special meat order, going well above and beyond to accommodate my request. A special thank you to Michael, meat dept manager. He was integral in accommodating me. Extremely kind, thoughtful, professional and efficient. He absolutely made our family holiday dinner a huge success! Thank you so much! I've shopped at Sheridan since the early 1970s and will continue until I can't shop any more!

Wonderful selection! I was so stoked to find frozen Jackfruit; seems like it's been out of stock everywhere else for years now. Some great vegan and vegetarian products, natto, as well as fabulous cheeses. And they have a parking lot (which is really nice as traffic around that area is awful)!

Best meat prices and selection in town. Bulk foods, wine, produce, and the friendliest employees!

Sheridan'a hands down makes the best Italian sausage in Portland. I have bought their sausage for dozens of times and have never been disappointed. They prepare an extremely flavorful Italian sausage, with just enough fennel to give it that special taste unique to Italian sausage without being overwhelming. In addition, Sheridan does not fill their Italian sausage with herbs that do not belong. The pork is relatively lean but not too lean giving the sausage the perfect texture. I also appreciate Sheridan's many other fine qualities--a widely diverse selection foods, a fine meat section, and very courteous, helpful employees.

Aw Sheridan, what has happened? the aisles are wider, the stock is very neat, but- meat department is pitifully low on inventory, and the deli is a shadow of its former glory. My husband and I went in today (Saturday) to get some produce and a couple sandwiches. I can understand not staffing the deli on a weekend, if it doesn't get that much traffic. So no one is making sandwiches, and we were directed to some pre-made ones in the case. Well I sincerely believe that ham and cheese was made about Thursday. The bread was so gummy it stuck to the bag when I tried to remove it. Sincerely, the single most awful sandwhich of my entire life. My heart is broken.

Fantastic little place. Very good quality produce and they have a big variety of goods given how small this place is. By far the number one attraction is not the produce it's the service deli. They have a huge variety of sausages of all kinds which are fantastic. I really like this place despite the fact that some of the cashiers at the register are little anal and controlling. Every time I go here somebody who works at the register always tells me where to stand, how far to stand away and they just seem a bit too stiff they need to relax!

This place goes into a special category, "places that make Portland what it is." -- Guess I should make a list. Sheridan is on it. On the one hand this is a traditional Italian grocery, such as you might be familiar with if you lived in Eastern cities some decades ago (or maybe they still exist). You can get good cheeses, pastas, olives, and especially produce and meats. It is called a "fruit company," after all, and it lives up to the name with a centrally displayed selection of seasonal fruits from local and regional farms, often of specialty varieties you won't find elsewhere, except maybe at a farmer's market. The meat counter is traditional and terrific, with various meats and fish, and huge array of housemade sausages. (Unfortunately the prices of those sausages have gone up almost double in recent months. They still are good to eat and in interesting variety, but no longer the great deal they used to be.) Oh, there are two housemade items you might try: sauerkraut and lard. Yes, house-rendered leaf lard. Another terrific section of this store is the bulk corridor. Take a left and then another left after entering -- it's possible to miss it! It includes some flours, grains and beans you might not see elsewhere. There are other treasures to be found in this fairly small but wonderful shop, but I'll let you discover those. So yes, it's an old-fashioned place, but one that has added some modern items. It's kind of a compact version of what New Seasons would like to be -- a friendly grocery featuring gourmet, local foods.

I can honestly say being vegetarian is pretty easy... until I walk into Sheridan's. There's something so welcoming about the meat counter, the selection is probably the best you're going to find in town honestly. It's all local, and everyone working the counter is filled with knowledge. Making a roast for the first time? Ask! They'll tell you everything you need to know, it's almost like as if you're stepping back in time before you had to read Google reviews to figure out where to buy meat. The bulk section is a money saver, and there's not many of these around in inner SE, so make sure you don't miss it. I promise you, bulk yeast is a better deal! Especially if you're not experienced, and you're going to make a lot of inedible dough balls destined for the compost pile.Don't miss out on the produce section either; for the size of the store, it's pretty massive and it's going to be better than any local grocery store (that shall remain nameless). Now for the cheese... while their selection may not be as varied as larger stores, the quality more than makes up for that. It's perfectly placed right beside the wine shelves too... so it's makes one stop shopping easier than ever.If you're even a little bit about "shopping local", then go no further.

As soon as you walk in, it's well stocked, and as soon as you step to the left for the items down that lane, my girlfriend went wild. So much odds and ends you can't find at the big grocers. Well stocked items. The meat department is great, including the customer service, which I gotta say they went above and beyond. Certain items I never thought they had in bulk sizes were a plus. Prices are fair on some items. Everything was great until we got to the cashier with glasses. She didn't greet me or my girlfriend nor smiled at any point in time. She didn't seem like she was in a good mood at all, hence my 4 star. I will definitely shop again, and hopefully, the cashier will either be in a better mood or just not working there anymore.

Last of the old fashioned Italian grocery stores. They aren't cheap but the price is absolutely worth it for the quality. Their core strengths of fresh produce, Italian specialties, bulk foods, and a bewildering variety of house-made sausages are each reason enough to go. Together? We hit the place at least once a week.

Prices on canned goods were wrong. Barely any local produce, they didn't even have local produce that's currently in season. All the bobs red mill items were more expensive than they are at Freddy's or Safeway. I don't think there's any reason to come here.If you're looking for high quality local produce I would suggest people's coop or food front.
