I remember Shogun's Gallery on NW 23rd. They relocated to a warehouse as the street gentrified - their old spot is a vacant lot. The original family who brought beautiful items from Japan have now largely passed the business to a younger person. I was strolling the neighborhood when a signboard announced an open day. Usually they are by appointment or voice call for entry. If you need their stuff, which you do, make an appointment or voice call for entry. They are on the 3rd floor of a clean warehouse with an elevator. They collect in Japan and ship their own containers. They have household ceramics, some tansu, some beautiful scroll landscape paintings, tools, tables, Japanese clothing, "go boards", sculptures, iron teapots, and more. Northern Japan is akin to Northwest USA and adjacent BC in climate and native culture. The native people in Japan are the Ainu and I visited their cultural center in Japan. Shogun's had on my visit collection of wood sculptures maybe 18-24" by 12" by 12" of bears catching salmon. It's in my pictures. Yes, Northern Japan has salmon! It is an Ainu native food. I have been known to haunt Japanese antique sales in Seattle. Some of the Shogun's items are very, very reasonably priced. I would recommend anyone interested in Japanese antiques, as seen by the photos, to visit by appointment and follow their announcements and other sales channels. The Northwest has a long relationship with Japan, Portland has a long and continuing relationship with Japan. If you want a little antique Japan in your living space or as a gift, Shogun's is a must-visit!

Such a gem of a place in Portland. If you’re into Japanese antiquities and vintage this is a must. The Place is a bit tricky to find since it’s located inside an industrial like building which can only be accessed via direct phone call to the shop, but otherwise huge selection of vintage and antique Japanese furniture, crafts, art & crafts etc. The staff member I met, Joshua, was extremely nice and helpful. 10/10

This place is packed to the brim with Asian antiques, primarily Japanese, and they were all so nicely curated! I had been meaning to buy an ikebana vase for a while and was super stoked to find one here since it was just a random stop and browse. My partner ended up grabbing some calligraphy brushes too. Can’t wait to stop by again. The person working here was so nice and informative too! A real treat to talk to.

Charlie was a delight today! He claims to have only worked at Shogun’s for a few months but I’d have guessed he’s been doing this for a decade or more. His friendly and knowledgeable approach was exactly what we were hoping for. We left with a couple of pieces we couldn’t live without but will likely be back for more after such a great experience. If you’re on the fence about coming here, this is your push to finally go!

Excellent and knowledgeable staff and quality antiques stacked up like I'm back in a Tokyo antique store! Parking isn't too bad for downtown Portland--semi warehouse area. You have to call to get buzzed in at the door but not an issue. They are on the 3rd floor and there is an elevator.

Superbly outfitted antique’s gallery for all types of collectors and aspiring interior designers ! Amazing selection of period pieces from Japan, of which [Joshua Peterson] assisted by walking me through his store for a piece from the gallery’s on-hand floor stock. This “ko-dansu (c.1870)” was delivered within less than a week from Portlandia to Manhattan by UPS (love them they’re fantastic honestly), and without any issues or damage in transit.Galerie Shoguns, en Le Nord-ouest PacifiqueThis is to help rearrange my wardrobe since there’s not a lot of room nor space to place everything neatly in one spot. A great piece. And perfect for my personal use at home … highly recommended and highly exceptional customer care and excellent salesmanship and personal service. These are photos of my “tatami room.”

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff! It was fun exploring the space as every nook and cranny has hidden goodies. Looks like they also buy antiques from customers, too!

If you want the one unique piece for your home (like I do) or are a serious collector of tansu (like the mother of a friend), Shogun's is the place to sigh and fall in love with perfectly restored, elegant Asian furniture. The owner knows his field, having sold works mostly from Japan for decades now. He is friendly, easy to work with, an able to answer questions and find just what you want.

Shogun’s Gallery is a real treasure trove! There is such a wide variety of beautiful vintage and antique items mostly from Japan, but also from China. It's so fascinating to see and hear about all the pieces in the shop! It's definitely worth stopping by! I've purchased several items both large and small. They take cash, check and cards through PayPal. This place is a real labor of love! The shop is located on the 3rd floor. There is both stair and elevator access!
