Pulled in here on my way over to Home Depot and so glad I did. Not only was the lumber 10% cheaper, but they also had an amazing selection of hardware. Found everything I needed for my project and saved me the extra trip to the big box store.

The 2024 ice storm destroyed my fence. I shopped around PDX and these guys have the best prices on lumber, great customer service, and provided key advice to rebuild my fence properly. They helped me order the exact amount of hardware and lumber I needed, and they even deliver (locally).
Come visit these guys (shout-out to Joel and Alonso). Never messing with the box-office lumber shops again.

We ordered over $18000 worth of composite decking and cable railing for our deck. Alonso worked with us throughout the process, answering 100 questions, finding us the best prices, and ensuring that we felt confident in our order. He was patient and professional, offering stellar customer service. Additionally, all the Shur-Way staff at both the Vancouver and Portland locations were helpful, straightforward, and willing to spend time with us.

All my questions were answered, the person taking my order was extremely helpful because I was not sure what was going to work best on my project. I explained to the best of my ability what I needed to Euan. He would take me to that section of the store and I could see, then identify the parts I needed.
That process continued until my order was complete. Euan had opportunities to show frustrations but he did not. He made me feel welcome. The service I received made me even more committed to giving Shur-Way my business. To add another layer of customer service. The sale is completed, I am in the lumber yard; The gentleman that loaded my truck; Jose was his name, he asked me "what is your name," he was very conscious in filling my order, as he selected the 2"x4"x8's , 4"x4"x8's and the 2"x2"x 8's, going into my truck bed he inspected each piece.
I became a customer a few years ago I needed a small flat piece of plywood, I was expecting to have to buy a 4' x 8" sheet hoping I would find a half sheet I could buy. The guys at the counter showed me a scrap piece, ask me "if that was big enough?" I said "yes." They gave it to me. I have always remembered that. Since then, I have built a small fence around a 21' x 6' front patio, and rebuilt a big gate between my how's and my neighbor. Using treated 4x4 post, treated 2x4s as railing, and treated 2"x2"x35" vertical slats on the patio and 1"x6"x6' treated slats on the gate and fencing
. I came to Shur-Way for my supplies. The only time I will go any other place for wood; would be if Shur-Way did not have what I needed. The customer service at Shur-Way won me over, and my visit today made only reinforced my commitment to do business with them. I felt good about doing business there.

This place has better quality wood than the box stores! They have good pricing on tools as well. I bought several pieces of cedar and they do a good job of keeping the wood dry. Nicole was very helpful and knew what I needed.

I used to like them, because their materials were a bit better than other options.
This time the material they recommended did not look right, and the stack was mixed. Three separate people assured me the piece was the correct item.
Once I started working with the material, it realized it was not nearly as strong as it should be.
I took it back, and they said they had sold me the wrong item. They offered me 50% off on the correct item, not 100%, because "it was cut." I accepted, because I don't have time or patience for them.
Their sloppy customer service cost me an extra $20, $60 for the wrong item the sold me, an hour driving, and an hour of wasted work, not to mention how slow hey were on the original pick up. That's way over $100 dollars in value wasted on their errors.
If I ever go back, it will be for the materials, not their service.
Watch them like a hawk, or they will screw you over. Zero out five stars.

Love this place. Came in to get some rough cedar to make planter boxes. Alonso was great and very helpful and knows his stuff. Nicole was so nice and gave me some great ideas for my boxes. Amazing staff and customer service with everything you need.

I’ve had mixed experiences here. Some good, some bad.Today I’m frustrated to find them closed during normal business hours. 2:30 on a Saturday. Wasted my time driving over, and pushed my project out another week.Seems inconsiderate to your customers. Update the voicemail message, adjust your hours on your Google Business page.Last time I was in I had to twist the guys arm to make a cut for me because they were closing in 15 minutes… it was ripping one piece of plywood. I’d have been happy to pay for the rip. The dude just had to roll his eyes and make a fuss about it…I have had good service from Alejandro though.

Good little lumber yard in North Portland, super convenient one working up there, super friendly staff. Have great deals on cedar, skip sheathing and various kinds of plywood. It's sort of like a North Portland version of mr. Plywood.
