One of our favorite places to hang out in Portland. Chill, cozy vibes and great sake. Nina and Molly know their stuff! Wednesday flights are a great opportunity to try some unique and interesting sake with good company, we learn something new every time we're there.
I highly recommend stopping in to check it out. Whether you're brand new to sake or already know what you like, you'll definitely find something to enjoy!

A sake joint that can handle whatever you want, whether it's to buy a bottle coming from zero knowledge, to find a good pairing for a fancy dinner, or to have a quiet drink. I highly recommend the sake club if you're at all inclined to this sort of thing.

I was looking for a nonalcoholic sake on short notice, which is very hard to find. I sent Sunflower a dm, and they got back to me within an hour and offered to special order it for me!
They were super kind and friendly and went out of their way to be helpful

This tucked away little sake shop is amazing! There is so much love, knowledge, and passion that goes into every aspect of this place.
They occasionally have a vegan version of their Oden night and it is incredible! The level of detail and care that goes into these bowls of soup is a work of art. And possibly the only place to find vegan Oden in the United States?
They have a great variety of sake, with something for everyone and great recommendations. Highly recommended!

Sunflower was a delightful surprise, recommended by a local Japanese restaurateur. We were impressed by their selection of sake, featuring varieties rarely found at major liquor stores or even Japanese restaurants. After a brief consultation with the owner, whose deep knowledge and passion for sake shone through, we enjoyed a customized tasting of three sakes tailored to our preferences. We then ordered a glass each of our favorite from the tasting. Every sake we tried was of exceptional quality, and both the owner and another staff member were kind and genuine. With my wife being a self-proclaimed sake enthusiast from Japan who enjoys sake regularly, I can say that if we lived in the area, we’d visit this store weekly. We highly recommend Sunflower to fellow sake enthusiasts and anyone eager to learn more about sake.

Visited last month at closing, and Molly was kind enough to help me out in choosing a gift, as well as letting me taste a couple. Thank you for your patience and advice!
The selection of sake and sake cups is awesome, and I love the little descriptions on each bottle!

Nina was a godsend in traversing and educating on the depths of sake, something I never even knew of much less expected to experience on an afternoon on traversing Distillery Row. We got to taste several bottles and learned some fascinating facts about their origins, and left with some top tier treats for the coming months, special occasions that will remind us of how well we were treated at Sunflower today. Thank you again!

PURE GOLD!
BEST HIDDEN GEM IN THE CITY!
GUARANTEED TO HELP WITH JAPAN WITHDRAWLS!
Came back for the millionth time today and Molly and Nina hid a special bottle away for me that they knew I would like! Talking about great hospitality and care! I’m so touched!
Best sake selection ever, but Molly and Nina are the real bonus! Their passion for sake is contagious and their knowledge and unpretentious approach to educating a novice such as myself has been one of the most enjoyable experiences I’ve had during my 3.5 years in Portland!

Clearly, the finest Portland emporium for obtaining, enjoying, contextualizing, and comprehending sakes in various styles from all over Japan. An absolutely amazing market place anchored by two exceptionally knowledgeable and skilled staff members (Nina and Molly) with impeccable talents and professional connections with brewers and distributors to help customers gain access to and better understand a beverage so evocative of Japanese artisanal traditions, refined production standards, and profound rapports between sake brewers, their natural ingredients, and landscapes. Shop staff retail prime sakes at all price points and expertly curate seasonal sake clubs offering avid custoners 2-4 bottles at a time. All club offerings at modest prices are deftly described, beautifully critiqued, and artfully contrasted along with perfect menu pairings and complimentary food recommendations. What's not to love? You need sake and crave to learn its robust and delicate secrets? Then go here and become perfectly informed via expert and welcoming guides.

Lovely sake bar offering a variety of bottles for purchase as well as some for tasting.
Molly was incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful as she thoughtfully offered answers to my questions.
Their sake selection is tastefully curated in a way that helps expose you to varietals that you may not otherwise know of.
Planning to try and come back on a day where I have a bit more time to stay, taste and learn even more.
Recommended spot for sake, especially when it comes to place a more-centrally located in town.

Super cozy space with a great selection of sake and helpful, knowledgeable staff. This is one of THE places to get and learn about sake on the west coast. They have an especially great selection of aged sake which is my personal favorite. Don't skip it if you're in Portland, and if you're into sake, make the trek!
