That's a solid 3 star hotel. The room is not very big, but the bed is comfortable. The bathroom is a little dated, but functional. The room is clean. They have a coffee maker and good enough coffee and tea in the room. They have a restaurant, which I only attended for a breakfast. The breakfast is nothing to write home about. The only sugar free protein are cold boiled eggs. However, the coffee is ok. They also give you bottled water at the reception if you ask. We spent some time at the outside sitting of the restaurant with gas burners. You may get marshmallow at the reception to grill. The location is not bad, just about 10..15 min walk from Pioneer Plaza. The area is quiet and feels safe. I would stay in this hotel again.

I rarely review, so know this is passionate! I have never had a better hotel experience for *anywhere near this price. We came for one night to see a comedy show, not intending to spend much time at the hotel. Now, we will be back to spend quality time with this as our destination! They offer a TON of equipment from bikes, scooters, kayaks, fishing poles, yoga mats, video games, to board games - literally anything you might want to do in or out of the hotel you can rent equipment for free of charge. FREE. I rented their switch for the evening because I’ve never used one before and got to play Tetris snuggled up in bed. The complimentary breakfast was perfect for us, with hardboiled eggs, muffins, yogurts, cereal, bagels and cream cheese. When we asked for a late check-out, they gave us a complimentary 1pm check-out, which is later than I’ve ever been offered. THANK YOU, Hotel Zags, for such a lovely stay - we can’t wait to be back.

had a lovely getaway at The Hotel Zags. Having funny movies like Billy Madison and Friends 📺🤣 available on TV was perfect for unwinding in the evenings. The game rooms 🎮🧸 were a fantastic bonus, especially if you're traveling with kids—they’ll love it!
The front desk staff were so nice and always accommodating 💯. My child had an accident during our stay, and they graciously let us change rooms free of charge 🛌🙌
The only con was that our first room was a little dusty, but the new room we were moved to was perfect. Overall, a cozy and enjoyable experience 🌿👩👧☕️🏙
Food & drinks: • Complimentary simple breakfasts
• Dinner available in hotel
• snacks in lobby

Stayed for 5 days in December of 2024. The positives are that the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Location is convenient but if you get a room facing the road you get traffic noise especially buses. Outdoor area, when weather is great for relaxing
The downsides are that the rooms are dated, not the cleanest and dark. Strange that lighting is very dim. The breakfast is limited and the “fresh fruit” consisted on overripe bananas and apples every day. So, manage your expectations on the breakfast.
The bigger downside is that you can’t control the room temperature. Only hot air comes out of the vent. I told the from desk clerk that I set the temperature for 68 at night and it went up to 78 instead. He said he knows that it can get hot and offered two solutions: 1) open the windows or 2) he can bring up a fan. Really?
What’s frustrating is that the staff is aware of the situation and several guests after us had the same complaint, yet the staff just dance around the issue of the guests not being able to control the room temperature
You can stay here but there are other alternatives. You’ll see similar observations in other reviews. Good luck.

this is a late review as i visited a while ago, we had booked through a third party service and arrived in Portland around 11pm-12am just to find out we had no room and had to pay over 1k to stay for five nights. Less than 8 hours of being there we woke up and found a cockroach/big beetle looking bug hanging out on the curtain next to my bed. Restaurant and decor around the hotel including the fireplace was awesome, location was secure as well as parking underneath hotel but I personally don’t know if I would book here again.
Nearby activities: The Japanese Garden is a short driving distance as well as Hoyt arboretum, there is tons to do downtown and it offers a wide variety of activities, new food experiences and shops!
Walkability: Portland is a pretty transportation friendly city so getting around wasn’t a problem, there are also tons to do since Hotel Zaggs is in downtown.
Food & drinks: They have a restaurant connected to the hotel, super amazing food!!

The hotel had the cutest Christmas vibes and decorations, and the fireplace at the back was a lovely touch. They even provided marshmallows and chocolates for making s’mores, which was a fun and cozy experience. The rooms were small but clean and comfortable. The only downside was the extra charge for amenities per room, but overall, it was a charming stay!

I’ve stayed here a few times and had a positive experience; however, there were some room issues with this visit. At first, the room was a little warm, and despite trying to turn the thermostat to a cooler temperature, it just kept getting warmer and warmer until it was 79 degrees in the room before we just got out of there because it was uncomfortable.

My stay was booked last minute (<48 hours) for 5 nights through American Airlines due to an emergency trip. The location, in-room amenities, and price point are very attractive. The rooms are well sized, equipped with a mini fridge and comfortably firm pillows, and the shower runs extra hot for a great wake up on cool mornings.
I found the staff to be adequately pleasant though not over the top friendly. The amenity fee was annoying, to say the least. Whether amenities are utilized or not, you will have to pay. I was either in my room or off property during the entirety of my stay, of which I only requested that my room be made up once (they only make up rooms every 3rd day if you don’t request it.)
I’d consider the property in the future but the amenity fee and parking situation ($40/night) are big negatives.
Noteworthy details: At $40/night, self parking is not cheap. Street parking was plentiful nearby and free during overnight hours. Enforcement appears to be lax as multiple renewed 2-hour sessions went unnoticed.
The ‘amenity fee’ is $35/night and not included when booking through 3rd party vendors. It is not negotiable and will be billed at the end of your stay.

Lyle, Lukas, Elliot, and Arthur made sure to take every effort in ensuring my stay was incredible. These folks truly care about the quality of your experience before the impact of their work days. The hotel is clean, well maintained, and modern. Offering many amenities like a game room, pool, and incredible dining experience. Overall, one of the most pleasant experiences I have had in my years of travel. Worth going out of your way to experience a stay here!

Im super disappointed because I really enjoyed our stay … we been having a problem getting our money back . They charge our card for a hold and told us money will be return never did they return it . My husband has reached out numerous times and has been told they would pass it on to the appropriate person and they never get back to us.

The hotel has friendly staff, clean rooms, and an excellent location. The price for parking is ridiculous ($40 per night), and the breakfast is poor. You can park in the streets for free after 7 pm, but they don't inform you. They also don't give any tips or advice about the neighbourhood, places to go, or the best restaurants nearby. This is something all hotels usually do.
