This is a fine organization devoted to safe, friendly interaction between cyclists and auto drivers. They are really squared away.

They like to complain and the items that they complain about aren't the one's the majority of the community would like to see. Who runs this poorly organized group?

Great advocacy for people, health, fun, and transportation. Police reports cost a lot of money; hit-and-runs are an epidemic in Oregon and it needs to be solved.

Tens of Thousands have already participated in BTA events like the Providence Bridge Pedal (Ride or Volunteer annually at 6 AM on an early August Sunday every year) or annual Bike Month events - like the Bus, Bike Car Commuter Challenge - in which human powered vehicles prove you can beat the competition, have a good time, engage lawmakers and media attention, and ensure robust health -simultaneously. Metro Councillor Rex Burkholder was one of the key Founders - and a dedicated Volunteer on (often boring, but necessary!) multi-stakeholder transportation policy committees at the state, regional and local level for enough years he knew he must get elected to gain a better place in the prioritizing food chain, so road safety could get some action that would continue to enable more diverse commuting options. He's been a Councillor for years now and last year oversaw a 30 year regional planning process - which includes freeways and freight interests and many cities and towns around the region. This leadership contribution is a major achievement in any career...and I believe it means Rex will be ready to assist in big ways when Mass Tram America is able to launch its city-to-city freight and passenger highway in the sky - with a superb view - carrying bikes, electric cars, and serving landings at regional freight nodes and shipping centers and multi-modal commuter hubs - using renewable energy and advanced electric motors. This will be another fast forward in defining the Portland Metro area as a global leader in sustainability including transit solutions...and it is essential that leaders like Rex (and Sam Adams) be in charge - who cooperate with process, and understand the Public Interest. The BTA can be your on-ramp to being a first-rate advocate, too. There are lots of reasons to join and participate in taking tihe BTA to another level. All Tri-Met Bikes have Bike Racks and there are free bike lockers in many places, thanks to BTA Advocacy. Legal Clinics and representation for injured riders are provided, thanks to the amazing Portland Attorney Ray Thomas. What might YOU contribute? You can Volunteer for Bike Parking shifts at major events, at least once a year, yes? Have friends in Eugene or elsewhere? It's a statewide organization and they can help localize the meaning of that. Thanx! Over the years you'll get so much more. Longtime Director Karen as a pioneering Role Model. Parties, events, Maps, new lanes and paths, education resources -- and better ODDS of survival! Also Register your Bike for a better chance to retrieve it if stolen. Now, go to the BTA Web Site and read Oregon's Statewide Bike Law! Looking forward to a long future of safer riding... SHARE THE ROAD! Jules - former BTA Board Member - who has had 3 Bikes stolen but keeps getting back on, a walker who rides Tri-Met Bus DAILY...prefers getting recycled Bikes at ths Community Cycling Center - and was the only BTA Bd Mbr who had not already been hit by a CAR at least once!!...but rode Bikes less than all other Board members - who mostly were legit longtime daily Bike Commuters.

How is it possible that, in a city of politically active bicyclists where 5% of the population commutes by bike, I get a first review for the best bicycle political action organization??? Come on yelpeddlers! These folks are great and anyone who bikes in Portland should be a card-carrying member. They lobby for bike lanes, bike boxes, bicycle awareness. They have legal representation if you get in an accident. Go to their website and join. You get a cool t-shirt every year (One Less Car is my fave) and you give them the clout to get it done in Salem and in Washington DC for urban biking. Ride On!!
