The place was short staffed, so getting help was difficult. The staff person walked me through the area of plants they recommend, but I could not remember all of their suggestions. I was focused on finding the ones I had previously researched.
At Thicket, you really need to know what you're looking for and how to identify it. Not by plant species name, per se, but also by your plant knowledge. I ended up in the right area of the garden but had no idea which plants would satisfy the specific sunlight/watering/soil of the space I planned to put them. Since Thicket did not have the specific plants I was looking for, it was a frustrating shopping experience. In the end, I chose a few plants at random and now hope that using my 'moisture meter' will help me keep the plants alive.

This is one of the best nurseries in Portland! What a great hidden gem. The staff was extremely knowledgable and helpful. They have so many plant options there, and well priced. Highly recommend.

Extremely helpful staff, diverse variety of interesting plants, and great location as well since you've got food and drink options nextdoor. They make very creative use of their limited space, both the sparse indoor greenhouses and the outdoor area; there were far more plants available than I'd have expected given the footprint they're on. Over the years, they seem to have significantly broadened their plant selection too, and gotten very good at selecting PNW specific plant varieties, both the more traditional ones and the kind that will hold up with the erratic heat waves and ice heavy winter storms that have gotten increasingly frequent in the metro area. Will definitely be back, probably many times since they're within blocks of some of my favorite Alberta restaurants!

On my way to moving to Portland, all my house plants died. I visited 3 stores in the NE area to look for options. Finally came across Thicket and was immediately impressed with the variety of options, friendly owner, and amazing prices. Seriously, Thicket is where I would go for all my plant needs. Thank me later.

This shop has an interesting collection of indoor and outdoor plants. Good pottery prices, and some unusual plants for sale (bottle tree, Solanum species, etc.). Worth a stop for plant people!

This is an amazing garden shop right in the heart of the Alberta Arts District. A wide selection of well-maintained vegetable and flower starts and some are in greenhouses on property. This place is similar to Portland Nursery but smaller. Did I mention friendly garden specialists. If you get hungry there's great food within 2 blocks of Thicket, including biscuits, sushi, tacos, and ice cream.

Website says open, yelp says open....not open. Is it that hard to daily update the status? Maybe it is...

Visiting Thicket is a treat for me. I have found some absolute gems here. Some have been long wished for plants, and others were new discoveries. Either way, I never leave without something I consider a showstopper for my garden.

My favorite nursery in Portland. The staff are kind and knowledgeable. There are bigger garden stores in the city, but this one feels like home.
