This is 100% the best spot in SE Portland to buy Chore Boy copper scrubbers. They have actual chore boy brand and they have every variety.

I walked in with no clue how to find my things, talked to Randy, he jumped in a grabbed everything I needed, and it ended up being a 5 minute errand and I am so thankful! Randy gets 10 stars!

There is a 99% chance that they’ll have what you’re looking for, and a 100% chance that they’ll be helpful and be able to point you to the right local place. Very well-stocked and knowledgeable, friendly staff.

This is my new hardware store go to! The first time I went, it was to get keys made. I'd struck out at two other stores first (one selling keys for $7 ea and the other was oht of stock of basic keys). When I went to Hankins, the employees were kind, the transaction was straightforward, and I could tell they enjoyed working there (always a plus)!Bought dirt there yesterday and was inspired by their garden out front. The employees were knowledgeable about my needs. I even got a parking spot right out front (essential for hauling heavy things)!

I've been wandering through the cramped aisles of Hankins for almost fifteen years now. This is a True Value Hardware store like you find in the vast empty reaches of Southern Colorado or New Mexico, packed to the rafters with all things hardware, not really a franchise even with that logo and definitely owned, staffed and run by locals. is it the cheapest? Nope, retail and not retail-plus pricing. Do they have everything you need to remodel your bathroom. Probably not but there's a broad selection of plumbing, electrical, paint, hardware and garden basics, along with a giant assortment of glues and tape (why? I don't know) and an aisle of little drawers and bins filled with a zillion different kinds of screws, bolts, washers, and nuts. The staff, most of whom seem to have been working there since my first visit, is always helpful and friendly, there's free street parking in front, and for most of those doing-a-chore moments when I realize that I need a handful of hardware or some PVC elbows or a plug, Hankins is five minutes away and probably has what I need.

5 star not because it has a selection as large as the two corporate big box horror shows that are HD and Lowe's. 5 star because a) their outdoor area shows a commitment to and a love of their neighborhood; b) it's an actual family owned and run business that has been either right there or one block up on Hawthorne for 33+ years that I know of; c) the employees give a **** about your concern is-unlike the big boxers; d) they give an intelligent reply to your question, again unlike above; e) they may offer an actually beneficial go-around, again unlike above corporate monsters, f) they know the difference between a "temp fix" and a "that will never work" and a "that'll work for now but get a pro to solve it asap"and "oh no, don't do that!"; g) they KNOW where such 'n such is.

I walked in the door and the cashier says, in a very nice voice, “we’re still doing masks”, and is tapping his finger on the masks. I couldn’t even bring myself to ask why.

Sweet place, feels very much a part of the neighborhood. Just wish there was a day or so on weekdays where they were open to like 6 or 6:30 so I could grab stuff after work.

A chain that always manages to feel like a local, neighborhood hardware store, I'm a huge fan of True Value. While they are across the river from where I live, this location is still one of the closest to my house and I love the service they provide. As soon as you enter you are greeted and asked if you need help finding anything. Typically when I stop at a hardware store I am here for something specific so having an employee guide me to the exact location is super helpful! That being said, while here I always peruse the aisles. I'm always delighted by the seasonal items and the beautiful kitchen accessories like dish towels and cocktail napkins in fun seasonal motifs. They have delightful scented candles that I've picked up for myself and hostess gifts. And of course they have extension cords, cleaning products, picture hanging kits, light bulbs, Allen wrenches and other random stuff I need. I'd much rather shop at a small, local store than go to a big box place where you have to walk huge distances to find a simple item or two. Located right on Hawthorne, you may drive right by because the garden out front gives the impression that it's just one of the houses in the hood! So put the location in your GPS so you don't miss it.

I'm sold! These folk are the nicest, friendliest, and most helpful outfit in town. They seem to have everything so I came here for some pieces to repair a piece of furniture. They found the EXACT pieces I needed, cut them to size, drilled holes in them, and sent me on my way grinning from ear to ear (because I was stumped by this project). I'm so glad they are in the neighborhood.

I come here often to get bits and bobs for work. The staff is always so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Hands down one of the best hardware stores to visit in town.
