For years, I was trapped in pharmacy hell with Walgreens. Every prescription pickup was a battle—endless lines, constant errors, and staff who treated customers as if we were lucky to be there at all. When I finally decided I'd had enough and tried to switch, I hit another wall: no other local pharmacy would accept my insurance.
Then I discovered Costco Mail Order Pharmacy, and everything changed.
What a difference proper customer service makes. When I call, someone actually answers the phone. My medications arrive before I run out—every single time. No more frantic calls wondering where my prescription is or whether I'll have to ration my medication.
But here's what really sets them apart: they treat me like a valued customer who deserves reliable service, not like I should be grateful for whatever scraps of attention they throw my way.
The contrast is stark: Walgreens made me feel powerless, like they owned me simply because of my insurance limitations. Costco Mail Order makes me feel respected and prioritized.
If you're stuck in the same pharmacy nightmare I was, there is a way out. Your insurance will most likely work with Costco Mail Order too—and if it does, you owe it to yourself to make the switch. You deserve better.
One last thing: Costco Membership is NOT required to use their pharmacy.

The store staff are generally pleasant, and I feel sorry for them that the store itself is dismal, filthy, and under-stocked. More importantly, this Walgreens pharmacy location is absolutely awful. Their automated system by texts or calling in consistently fails or simply doesn’t work where I’m forced to call into the physical location and wait on hold for hours at a time only to be hung up on and have to call back in. Once you do get someone on the line the techs are rude, rushed, and do not listen. I gave this place at least three years and there has been no improvements. I’m pulling my prescriptions from this Walgreens and going elsewhere.

Please don’t get immunizations here :( this was a traumatizing experience. The pharmacist who administered my shot was obviously stressed, but it doesn’t excuse the way he interacted with me. He was short with me and kind of aggressive in general. When my arm started bleeding he completely panicked and it honestly really scared me. I nearly fainted afterwards just from the overwhelm/shock from the entire experience.
I understand it’s probably a really shitty job sometimes, but you are still in healthcare and are supposed to be there to help take care of people.
Also the tiny room they have for shots is filthy and kind of terrifying tbh.
Avoid if you can :(

If you have to lock up all the items in the store. Just close the location for goodness sakes. I'd rather drive to a location where I can actually get the items I need without having to wait 30 minutes for someone to unlock a shelf.

Consistent: Poor service and price gouging.
After avoiding this pharmacy for 10+ years I decided to try again.
Poor Service: There is no prescription drop off window. You must wait in a single line behind all those picking up prescriptions to drop off a new one.
Price gouging: Having filled this generic steroid eye drop prescription previously at CVS, I asked the price: $44. CVS charges $33 for the same prescription. That's 33% more at Walgreens. No surprise the stores are closing all over the USA

I called at 4:57 on a Saturday. They picked it up and hung up on me. I called again at 4:59. They picked it up and put me on hold for half an hour until I hung up.
They claim that the pharmacy closes at 6pm but when I drove there in person to deal with whatever shenanigans were going on there, they were closing their doors at 5:30.
I needed this medication before a trip and they left me high and dry. Good thing I was driving and not flying because I was able to delay my trip and get the prescription filled the next day - at another Walgreens.
I won't be back.

I understand their suspiciousness concerning unspeakable clients. Nevertheless, I have become such a loyal customer, and every time I go shopping there; I'm treated with kindness and respect.

The lady running the photo department is ridiculously efficient! It was exhausting just watching her. Way to go!

I was prescribed two medications that combined, can cause a "rare but serious condition," but received no information from the pharmacist about this risk during the consult. (The ER also gave me no warning, but I usually count more on pharmacists for their specialized insights about pharmaceuticals). I only learned about it because I am one of the rare people who views medication guides before using prescriptions, and there was enough there for me to research further. They also misspelled my name even though I was already in their system, and they had viewed my insurance card that shows the correct spelling. That doesn't give me a lot of confidence in their attention to detail about the more-important parts of their jobs. The only reason they have two stars instead of one is because of the friendliness of the employee managing intakes.

Prescriptions take way too long, and aren’t even ready when they say they will be!

Avoid this place at all costs. I transferred a prescription here because they were the first I found that had it in stock. It took them 2 weeks to get the prescription and get the billing and insurance worked out. I spoke to 4 different people over that time, each with a totally different version of what the problem was. As I write this, I’m in line to pick it up, hoping the billing is actually sorted out (man on the phone said it was, their automated system suggests it isn’t). And there are 11 people in line in front of me.

My doc sent a prescription over and the pharmacy refused to fill it even as of last year Walgreens is covered under insurance. Very unfriendly pharmacy. Do not recommend.

Pharmacist refused to check computer to see if medication was available beyond their store, which they can do, because the meds I take are commonly not stocked at any particular store. It has to be ordered. And the pharmacist refused to check the computer system to see if the meds could be ordered. Other walgreens stores are better. This is incompetence and or laziness.
