“I found Alterations by Heather from a list of recommended Portland-based tailors provided to me from the shop where I purchased my wedding gown from, Brides for a Cause. As a DIY bride with lots on my plate, I had my sister/maid of honor call to make an appointment on my behalf and I drove out to St. Helens on blind faith and I’m so happy I did!
My seamstress was able to fix my second-hand dress and make it fit perfectly and sparkle like new! Every change and detail was one we thoroughly discussed and agreed upon which made me feel very comfortable. All in all, they added a bustle, cup inserts that saved me from having to hunt down the perfect strapless plus sizes bra (no, thank you!!), AND fixed the boning in the corset so my girls were sitting high and my waist looked snatched! They also fixed the sleeves to fit to my wrist and hemmed the length as well as fixed a number of pearl beads that were sewn into the corset and delicate mesh. Lastly, they fixed the neck of the dress as it had ripped when it caught on my engagement ring but they made it look brand new! The price was also very reasonable in my opinion for the laundry list of things that had to be fixed and I am so thankful!
When I returned after the fitting for my try on (a very exciting experience and a last chance to edit any final details a few weeks before the wedding) they provided a gorgeous silk changing robe that was in my size (I’m a plus size bride) and that made me feel particularly cared for, elegant, and chic; a true bridal experience!
The staff were so kind and accommodating, I had complete trust in their process and it absolutely paid off. They took a video showing how to bustle the dress that saved my skin on the day-of so I could hit the dance floor with the train up. Everything held up wonderfully on the day of my wedding (I wore my dress all day) and I felt so beautiful and like a celestial princess. I was even able to find some stunning jewelry at their store to wear on my wedding day and to gift to my bridal party. From start to finish, I cannot say enough about how fantastic the experience was at Alterations by Heather.”
