I completed my taxes and the agent set up an online payment with my account. The payment day has passed...and no payment was ever taken from my account. I contacted the west salem office to verify the payment information and they said there was no way to help me!!! I'm sorry what?? You sent the payment info on my behalf and I can't verify the information is correct?? This is completely u believeable. I was told to contact the IRS, which I did for 4 days in a row and have never got to talk to a human being to have my question answered. I will most like now have a late IRS payment. Apparently as soon as you pay for your tax prep fees they are no longer willing to assist you in anyway. This is completely unbelievable and I would advise anyone I know NOT to use the West Salem location on Edgewater. They run a shady operation for sure and are unwilling to help their clients after they've gotten the money they want from you.

My wife and I went to H and R block to file our taxes. This was both our first time having them file our taxes and not using turbo tax. We decided to use H and R block because we were going to be filing married jointly for the first time, had questions about our w4/ witholdings, and I had multiple jobs for the first time. For us it was a lot of change to our usual taxes so we just wanted a tax professional to assist us.
We get there and Carol is our lady to help us. My wife and I both make similar amounts in wage, she makes about $3k more a year than I do. We both contribute to retirement and we own a home, just normal stuff. Nothing out of the norm.
So at the end, after she plugs in our numbers, she says that our combined total income is $100,000 more than what it actually is. When we asked where she got the extra $100,000 she said something about our retirement, it didn't make much sense. We thought this was weird because we aren't withdrawing anything from our retirement, and we also don't exceed the amount on contributions. But, we just went with it cause she is the professional. Then she proceeds to tell us that we owe the federal and state a combined amount of $28,000! This was outrageous to us because in prior years when we filed single we always got money back. Like multiple thousands back. So to all the sudden get married and do nothing different finacially and owe $28,000 was crazy. We told her that we both pay around 31% on taxes because we claim 0, and we did that to ensure we didn't owe.
She said she would look into it, but had another client so she would give us a call. She called and said that the reason being was because my wife over contributed to her retirement. She was saying that she contributed 80% of her gross earning for the entire year into her retirement. 80% of her gross income would be impossible to contribute because of taxes, and she would then bring absolutely nothing for her net income. So, my wife did not do that, and we are unsure how she came to that conclusion. When she told Carol that she didn't over contribute, Carol pushed back saying we did. There is nothing in our paperwork saying that my wife over contributed, and we even double checked.
It just seems like there are so many places where it went wrong. In the end we decided to not go with H and R block because we knew she did something wrong.
Well we had our taxes done by someone else and we are getting a return of approx $3,000 back.
My worry is not for us, but for other people. Who else has Carol provided incorrect services for? Did other people pay when they shouldn't have?

They can't even answer their phone
I would prefer turbotax, but there doesn't seem to be an office location in salem.
Not sure why I was considering giving them my business again.They royally screwed up and spoke in washington.
Never informed me. There was going to be a $60 fee for me to use. Their credit card to get my taxes put on it. Horrible experience don't recommend.

Worst. Experience. Ever. Made an appointment on March 17th. Was told it would take 48 hours to re-certify for out of state taxes, and that they would be done a few days after that. It is now April 21st, haven't gotten a single response to the numerous emails and phone calls. Will never go here again and would advise other people to not patron this business. Don't normally leave reviews either. This is just an unacceptably low level of professionalism and customer service.
