I have used Jaxkson Hewitt for many years. My tax preparer retired forcing me to select someone else. I had just had surgery prior to my appointment, so when I walked into the South Salem office and explained my situation, Diane told me she would have my taxes prepared without me there, and then rescheduled my appointment for a week later for signing. I was so relieved and am very thankful that Diane understood my situation and accommodated my needs. I have found my new tax person.

I was very pleased with the service I received at Jackson Hewitt. I had previously had taxes done at H&R Block, but they continued to raise their prices substantially every year, so I decided to try Jackson Hewitt. My preparer at JH was pleasant, professional, and very knowledgeable, and the price was very reasonable. I am glad I switched, and I will continue with them in the future.

We used Jackson Hewitt for the first time this year and this review will address pros and cons. Pros: Because we phoned late February to schedule, we were able to get our taxes done in March. It's always best to do it early if you can.
We arrived at our appointment a few minutes early. While seated in the open waiting area, the manager was talking from her desk across the room with 2 other employees about who wanted to take X client. It was obvious the client wasn't a favorite as she acted as if she was flipping a coin to see which employee would be stuck helping them. Her lack of professional discretion was concerning. It was a conversation that should have happened in private -- not in front of customers. Also, even though we arrived 10 minutes early, the manager never acknowledged us with "we'll be with you shortly" or some communication to indicate we'd be sitting there waiting while one employee ate her snack, and they had their short cross room chit chat about another customer and who would get stuck with them. Wow!
It was NOT a good first impression at all!
During our appointment, I asked the woman who assisted with our taxes, what Jackson Hewitt's policy was about retaining customers private information and data. Her reply was literally "forever." When I pushed back, insisting that keeping customers social security and other records "forever" whether digital or on paper, couldn't be right, she insisted it was. So I asked for a phone number to contact headquarters.
When I phoned the main number for Jackson Hewitt, their phone menu was not efficient for reaching a live person. It took several tries while also using the chat feature of the main website while on hold. Finally after several minutes, a live person in the chat box provided me with a number for the district manager in my area. I was also told via chat that the company retains customers digital and paper records for 7 years -- not forever!
I tried to phone District manager named James, several times but the phone menu options did not allow to leave James a message directly! The phone experience was a waste of time that I don't get back, The web chat service was slightly better but also time consuming. BOTS are no substitute for customer support!
Our taxes got done in a timely fashion because we made the appointment early. The fee was reasonable and cost less than the private CPA we used last year. We already got our refund because we filed early. We also had our paperwork organized which makes it easier for the agent transferring the details.
Between the inappropriate cross room chatter about another customer (who was actually named though I don't remember the name), bad information about the company's record keeping, and the lack of efficiency to contact the regional manager by phone, it's doubtful we'll use them again! Considering Jackson Hewitt is a National company, I expected much more professionalism and efficiency.

Did my taxes last year with Jackson Hewitt, they were great then. The guy claiming to be a “tax professional” that’s there now that can’t speak English is rude and unprofessional. I called him with questions because I wasn’t understanding a part of my taxes and he told me to Google or check on Reddit, yelled at me, and hung up.
