The meat counter in this location needs some major work. Always out of the sale items. The location in South Salem is 100% better.

It's really hard to review grocery stores coming from other areas. If I were living in a different state with better stores I WOULD NOT COME HERE EVER. Since it's pretty much the only "inexpensive" one in the area (Roth's is up the street) so it's what I have to deal with.

Why in the HELL does your LAZY deli stop cooking fried chicken BEFORE 6PM? This is beyond unacceptable. Not everyone gets off work and to your useless deli before 4PM. Fix this.

I've been shopping at this Safeway for years. For the past 6 years my 6lb dog has been coming with me. Today a young man employee vary rudely told me my dog was not welcome in the store. I spend around 2 grand a month there but not anymore. I will not be back.

30%+ overcharge. Boomers beware. You have to work for the lowest marked price. $23 overcharge on a $78 tab. I've downloaded their digital coupon app and provided my phone# but it's tricky to say the least. Twice in the last 30 days the system has not given me the $50 worth of discounts. I have no doubt it's due to operator error. I've tried to tell the checkers but they gaslight and tell me the system adds the discount at the end. But they don't make sure. Last night I bought two small bags of groceries for $78. It didn't feel right and by the time I got to my car I had decided this time I was going back to customer service. I got $23 back but not without a (lecture-ish) tutorial. They have no short term financial incentive to make sure we are taken care of. Watch your back.Update: 12hrs later I went to the Lancaster Safeway to buy coffee for my office and the same coffee, "specially" marked at $5.99 out West, had a special price of $7.49. Again it wouldn't scan on my phone app. The sales clerk told me it would reduce the price at the end of the transaction but again it didn't.

This location is convenient because it's on my commute route. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Although there are many different tasty options, it seems the products coming from the bakery aren't keeping up with community demands. I feel like they're always looking a little low on inventory as for baked goods and such. One of my favorite spots is the sliced fresh fruit case, yet this location is almost ALWAYS out of fruit. I've visited the store at different times of the day and night but it's always the same. My only recommendation would be to increase the volume of the fresh items in your fruit case and products coming from your bakery, because people are loving it apparently and we all want to enjoy!

I wish I can give a 5 star. But one person in that whole store ruins this whole store. It's so much nicer when "SARAH" isn't there. She's always yelling at people with no common sense that she's at a work place. She talks badly about workers to us Customers. I'm one of them. She's unprofessional, she has a tantrum issue, and the worst of all besides this?? Is that she discriminates against the mentally challenged. She told Many people in that store the other day of how can anyone hire "people" like that. That really hurt. I have a child who has ADHD and we shop at West Salem Safeway, can you imagine if my own child heard this? Sarah is so loud, with no respect, she doesn't care for others feelings. If anyone needs professional help, it's Sarah. That store would be so much better without her. Or she needs a good attitude adjustment. West Salem is a small community of it's own, and to know many of us feel this way about this store, it's just truly sad. Disappointed. Everyone else is so sweet and nice. But not her. 1 star.

I have lived and grocery shopped in West Salem for over 20 years. While this Safeway store has gotten a facelift, it's like the old saying "putting lipstick on a pig". This store is sorely in need of expanding. Most times they are out of quite a number of their weekly 'deals' and the lines at check-out are ridiculously long and there is no place for a line to form unless you block the flow of people moving about the store. The aisles are short and crowded and so is the merchandise on the shelves. Their butcher shop is a total joke -- or perhaps it is aptly named as they totally 'butcher' their cuts of meat such as mangled pork chops that are 3/4" at the ends and 1/8" in the middle (bone in, no less). You also have to be careful with their produce and look over everything meticulously. Now that Roth's has been sold (and their prices compared to Safeway are ASTRONOMICAL) if this Safeway store was expanded to match the growth in West Salem it would probably put Roth's out of business. But, that's probably one of the reasons it seems to have gotten even more crowded than it was. The staff are heroic in their efforts to make the store work and help people, though. A bigger store is sorely needed, but I don't think they can expand their current footprint. They need a new location and new store in West Salem. I hope corporate takes notice. BEST KEPT SECRET -- the Safeway on 99E in Woodburn is one of THE BEST Safeway's I have ever seen. They need to model all their stores after this one.
