If you’re looking for a tree/bush/shrub that flowers at a certain time of year, or smells like perfume, or bears fruit, start here. Lucille knows her stuff, down to the Latin names. She’s truly in awe of what Mother Nature produces & has propagated all that she loves.She tracked down the Tillamook Goumi and has domesticated & propagated this most delightful large fruited & delicious variety of goumi berries. Best selection of mulberries I’ve ever seen. Hundreds more that I can’t even begin to comprehend the varieties she has on hand. This farm is a true labor of love. In the Spring she offers hundreds of bare-root fruit starts.It’s always good to give her a call before driving out. Now in her 8th decade, she’s still a firecracker; I bet you’ll love her Southern accent too.She ships all over the USA, but we can stop by & meet a real legend, right here in West Salem.

I ordered a bunch of plants, two of the were supposed to be Ginkgo. Lucile emailed and said they don't ship Ginkgo until they leaf out, as they frequently regress to green. I said, please do hold the Ginkgo trees. Well one came after all, and of course it only leafed out green. I was charged for the tree despite it not being what I ordered. When I wrote and asked for Lucile to resend me one, that had now leafed out or refund me the money for that defective tree, She said "Tough Luck". Won't ever buy from Whitman Farms again.

Lucile had the tree we were looking for at a reasonable price and it was fun to meet her too. Beautiful farm in the hills west of Salem. Our little pink dogwood is now happily planted in the front yard. Thanx Lucile!

This business is fantastic. Lucile is phenomenal to work with, and I can't wait to work with her more in the future! I would like to be able to do more with them through the website, but the downfall to that would be I wouldn't interact with them as much! Keep up the great work Whitman Farms!

I ordered a coral lake magnolia tree to be shipped from Salem to Baltimore. I ended up receiving a tree that is over 3 feet tall in a quart container. I think there was some delays on the part of FedEx, not Lucile‘s fault. The tree came still very moist, not overwatered though, and came out the box perfectly. A testament to the shipper. Thank you so much, Lucile! I can’t wait to see the spring blossoms!
