It brings me absolutely no joy to write this review as the experience I just had in the Marshalls at the Gateway Shopping Center was one of the more ugly moments of my life. I regularly shop at this Marshalls but the last two times I have been in by myself I have experienced what I can only describe as racial profiling.
The first incident was much less pronounced than my recent experience. That time, a few weeks ago, I had a single employee who was clearly following me around the store. It was in no way subtle and I thought it was a unique experience because whenever I shop there with my partner, who is white, I have never had to deal with anything like that. It was a little annoying but it was insignificant enough that I brushed the memory of it aside. What just happened though I will not forgot.
This time I did not just have one employee following me but four employees that were completely tactless in their extreme and invasive monitoring of me. Two managers and two workers caused me to feel physically harassed merely for shopping, practically running to the different locations of the store where I would move to next. Management was hovering outside of the dressing room after I tried on my clothes despite having been stocking on the other end of the store moments before, and scurrying away as soon as I came out. All the workers minus one manager who were harassing me while I was shopping were for some reason no longer needed on the floor when I approached the register. They too were suddenly needed at the registers despite there being no change in the line except for myself. I watched the worker nod approval to her manager as my card went through and I watched the manager scowl at me as I left. With that scowl it felt as though she were wishing I was actually a criminal so that her delusions would be affirmed. Overall the shopping experience felt unsafe.
The bigotry on display at this location is absolutely appalling, it was painful being treated like a criminal and it was sad to watch the exasperated expressions of the workers as they were made to be complicit in what was clearly another racist goose chase that their management was leading them on.
I will suggest to all non-white people that if they do choose to give this ignorant management their money make sure they bring a white friend with them unless they also want to experience the same physical and emotional harassment I have just undergone.
I will not be shopping here again and am recommending the same to others.

We had our HVAC systems serviced by Danny who works for Marshall’s Heating. Danny provided excellent customer service and was very thorough with our maintenance needs.

Love Marshalls and the pricing is great. But have to take two stars away for the unfriendly employees. Will continue to shop at Marshalls but not at this location.

Good deals. Way better than Ross store..which is next door. AND they have carts to carry your purchases to your car. Ross won't let you remove cart from their store . ( Tall metal pole attached to each basket). No class.?

Love this place, my latest adventure. My wife bought a pan she liked a lot. Decided she wanted a set. Online sets of these were over $500. I went to Marshall's and also TJ Maxx and between the two stores I pieced to gather a complete set plus a matching wok matching steamer and a huge matching pot that I don't even no what it is called but it is huge and matches. So, a complete set plus extras for $170. I can not say it too much. I love shopping here. For the budget conscious, it can be an adventure, but 100% worth it

Somehow, during this Holiday Season, Marshalls has managed to ingratiate itself into my personal being. Perhaps the sweets on display or a pair of jeans for a third or more less in cost at a more likely clothing store. The woman taking hard earned money was not pleased to be doing so. I shall not take her personal vendetta against dog owners personally. Fair Warning, Gethsemane, I shall return before long.
