This is a quaint little town northwest of Sumpter Oregon, and the Granite Lodge is no exception.I love the history and remoteness of these historical towns.Did you know that Granite was named Independence. The towns name was changed to Granite when they applied for a Post Office because there was already an Independence Oregon.Enjoy your stay while you're in town and enjoy the great outdoors. As always, leave it better than you found it and enjoy ? ?.

Communication ahead of our stay via email was very helpful, with quick, complete replies. Dianna & Jim work really hard to provide a comfortable stay for guests and succeed. The location is rather remote, which could be either a plus or a minus. For us, traveling by bicycle, it was the perfect place between our other destinations and made traveling our desired route possible.Rooms: Very nicely decorated according to their theme (owl, deer, etc.) and well supplied. It's a very comfortable place and works well for large groups.Noteworthy details: Although their kitchen was under renovation, Dianna still provided a delicious dinner meal for us as well as breakfast items. She made it a point to work with our dietary needs.

I took my husband here for a relaxing weekend and it was amazing. Jim and Dianna are the nicest, sweetest couple and are very welcoming. A very warm, welcoming environment made extra special by the visit with Jim and Dianna. The room was perfect with a great view! The remodel is coming along nicely and we can't wait to come back to see how it progresses. It is the perfect spot for a quiet getaway to just catch your breath, relax and renew yourself.Rooms: They have a variety of rooms to accommodate couples, families, or large groups and each room has its own outdoor theme. The common rooms are spacious and offer a variety of movies, books, and games to play or just a quiet place to sit and relax.Food & drinks: Breakfast was a variety of pastries, cereals, and drinks. Very tasty and we got to take some home!Noteworthy details: Jim and Dianna are very warm, inviting, welcoming, and friendly. They made the experience even more lovely by our wonderful conversation and feeling as though we were leaving friends, not hosts.

Cannot say enough about the kindness of Jim and Dianna. They made sure all of our needs were met. After checking in, we were shown to our beautiful, rustic room. All the amenities we needed were provided. No TV was just what we needed. We sat out on the wrap around deck after settling in and enjoyed perfect weather, the blissful quiet, and a gorgeous view. We will certainly be back.

The Granite lodge is the perfect hideaway! My family and our good of friends have been back to the lodge year after year, with nothing but good things to say about the lodge. We use the lodge as starting point for our daily adventures, then come back each evening to the clean and quiet rooms that are always up to our expectations. This last year we had one of our side x sides break down, and the owner Jim, was right there beside us, offering tools/help and anything else we needed, to make repairs. Each year, on the way out the door, we make reservations for the following year, as we know we would not miss a year. Dianna and Jim are awesome hosts – the lodge definitely rates a 5 star review in my book.Noteworthy details: Beautiful scenery with outdoor activities too numerous to mention.

I am a repeat customer of the Granite Lodge and will continue for years to come. The rooms are decorated with animal themes, each room has a refrigertor and microwave. Rooms have always been clean. The owners have always made us feel welcomed and go out of their way to make sure we have everything we need. We are able to use the BBQ & kitchen. We feel at home when we are there. The scenic views are amazing as well. If you are looking to get away from the busy city and noise, this is the place to go.We have never been disappointed!!!!!

In response to the P Frost review. We were the other guests at the lodge. Myself, my husband and our three children along with our dog. We had an amazing experience and we were welcomed with incredible hospitality! We even left $60 because it was so spectacular and wanted to thank them for the experience! Our room was awesome and completely accommodated all of us! No musty carpets for us. The only encounters we had with P Frost and their two dogs was very brief. Never did we express we felt we were walking on eggshells. Because our time there was great! She made me coffee every morning just in case I wanted some! Because hubby mentioned every once in awhile I drink it. The kids loved the breakfast every morning. She even asked out second night what the kids would like for breakfast and mentioned making the cinnamon rolls that P Frost later complains about. Our kiddos were so excited about that. It was above and beyond what they did for us!!!! We ended up taking said cinnamon rolls home too. We will be coming back to the lodge again! The kindness we were shown was absolutely impressive! The review left by P Frost does not reflect our view and experience at all. And how sad she would try to use us as participants in her bad review. Amazing lodge and even more beautiful are the people that run it.

We came to granite on a trip to look at property from Joseph Oregon. Based upon reviews I thought it would be a nice place to stay instead of bringing our camper. The area is nice, nice enough that we are seeking to buy recreational property in the area. A great jump off point for so many activities available in the area. Peaceful. Beautiful. We love it. We didn't have a good stay at the Granite Lodge. Wished we would have brought our trailer. I have a history owning hospitality based businesses, so I am sensitive to leaving a less than positive reviews. People have bad days, get tired and honestly I didn't expect much for the rate charged. It will suffice to say we left early. The room was small and cramped but fine. The carpet is a bit musty so if you have allergies beware...but I do understand they are renovating so understandable. The problem was not feeling much genuine hospitality. Felt like being there was an inconvenience. The other guests there that night felt the same. Walking on eggshells...Pro tip- Try not to complain about guests and the public TO guests and the public. ESPECIALLY at check in. We never were ahown any common areas, or where plates and utensils we're for grilling. And honestly with the lights out and the places dark and locked up. We decided not to try. I understand people get tired of tourists but based on our conversation with other guests they received the same 'talk' at check in and were feeling like they needed to keep a low profile. Not very welcoming or helpful. There were no pastries at breakfast. No hot water for tea. Just gummy Costco muffins and some decent (cold) cinnamon rolls with a thick sweet frosting. Nothing else. Lights were out. No idea where things were so we packed up and left. Dogs are not really welcome but tolerated. Just not a comfortable stay. I wish them the best. Once you no longer enjoy welcoming guests and answering questions...it might be time to stop. Perhaps it was just a bad day. But it definitely impacted our time and we had to leave early on my husband's birthday because we just were not comfortable. ?♀️ Honest review. Sorry! But it's what we experienced. I sincerely hope others have better stays.Rooms: Very small. No extra blankets or temp control. Clean. You may want to bring your own pillows and a comfy blanket. Bedding is sparse and crunchy. A bit stuffy and cramped for a couple when there are no welcoming common areas we were shown beyond outside back deckNearby activities: Too many to list...Food & drinks: Go eat in town, or bring your own setup and go to a day use area. Refrigerators in rooms. Only sugary Costco breakfast muffins and cinnamon rolls. If you want good coffee bring it. We brought our own raw milk, honey and tea...but there didn't appear to be any hot tea water available. There is a toaster and a grill. But bring anything you might need to prepare food in an alternate location.Noteworthy details: Dogs are tolerated with a $30 feet. On leash at all times (emphasized in many ways) Not allowed on furniture, but not much room for dog beds in our room. It worked but it was tight. Brought sheets from home to cover bed in case my baby jumped up. She didn't. But glad I brought them. I imagine it would be a huge problem if dog hair was found on bed.

THE BEST!! If you are looking for a perfect place that you’ll say WOW, Granite Lodge is it!!!Hands down such a phenomenal place, service was amazing, the owners treat you truly like you are family, the room was clean, smelled so nice and was really like home. I would honestly give them 10 stars if I could. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND giving them a visit for the weekend or a week. Several different rooms to choose from. The prices are remarkable. You can’t ask for a better getaway than Granite Lodge. I’ll absolutely be back many more times. The area is full of so much beautiful history. A huge thank you to Jim and Diana for your great hospitality!
