I've had checking, savings, and mortgage accounts with Umpqua for 5 years. The problems I have with them are the following: 1) You can only use their ATM, 2) You cannot access funds from overseas (such as during vacations), 3) Funds transfer to another bank is extremely limited on a per-day and per-month basis. I wanted to move several thousand dollars to another bank but could not, or it would take me 2 months to move the funds due to monthly limitations. I am closing this account. I have to write a check for the balance in order to close the account because electronic transfers are so limited. Think about this when you want to close your account. It's quite painful.

I have been a customer of Umpqua Bank for years. I even worked for them as a contractor at one point helping put in some of the marketing technology into some of the branches. I do not know what has happened but over the years the quality of the service had gone downhill. I finally pulled the plug on the one account I had with them about four weeks ago. I used it as a back up to my main business account. I had not had a lot of activity on the account but I am reasonably sure I had used it in November of last year. I pulled up to the drive-in window to make a fairly sizeable deposit and was told that the account was on "Inactive Status." Which meant I could not even make the deposit. At that point, I asked to close the account. I was in the drive-in as I said and I was a bit upset and more or less demanded they cut me a check then and there. They did it and kept their cool so I give them one extra star for that. The truth is that I think that when Ray Davis (former CEO) left this bank it lost its heart. Umpqua is no longer the "Worlds Greatest Bank", not even close. There were other less than positive interactions in the last few years. It was time to move on. Hate to see this. It was a very good bank at one time.

Without exception, all the staff I've interacted with, both in person and on the phone, are very friendly and helpful. For that I'll give Umpqua 5 stars. The three star rating is due to the dismal ATM system they have in place. It is very slow and asks way too many questions. As a result my wife and I both dread having to use the ATM and will instead just go inside during business hours. They really need to replace their system. We've banked with B of A and Chase and both have far superior ATM systems.

Ive always boasted of Umpqua's customer service. When others would complain of the inconvenience of banking with UMPQUA, I would insist that their incredible customer service made the slight inconveniences ever so slight. That was true until the closed the Barrows Rd. branch and I had to start going over to Tigard. OH MY! Not only does the Tigard branch NOT have that same customer service that had me singing their praises. I have found this branch to be intolerable; rude and anything but helpful. My account had been compromised and cleaning it up was next to impossible due to their inept staff, rude manager and inconvenient location. If I had to speak to anyone in that office again, I was going to scream. I finally called the Hillsboro branch to get some help. Two months later we are finally making progress. UMPQUA = 2 thumbs DOWN

Umpqua is a perfectly average bank whose practices are no different from any major bank: profits first, people last. Don't be fooled by their "style". This is not a community bank and does not work in the interests of our community any more than does Chase bank.

Very nice people at this location. Always greeted with a smile and I never have to wait in line. Nice and quite just like I like it!

Being new in town, we went down to this branch to open checking accts on a Thursday afternoon, and it was pretty laidback. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted warmly and then passed to a young woman named Amber who walked us through the whole process. They were having a glitch of some kind that forced her to re-enter all of our data into their database in order to set up the accts, so we walked over to a sandwich shop in the same plaza in the meantime. Once we returned, everything was ready to roll, and she gave us her personal number and email to contact her with any questions. She set up our online banking and emailed us the login info, and replied to our emails quickly to help us get the online banking setup correctly & customized. We have been local-credit-union customers back in California for years now, and even we were impressed by this level of personal service. We were also plied with nice schwag for joining: nice sleek travel coffee mugs, and a small bag of coffee! Only in Portland.... However, it did take about 2 hrs for the whole process, which is a bit long considering there were barely any other customers there.
