The staff are very nice and caring, they provide good service. But the pharmacy has been horribly understaffed for almost a year.
They do not answer the phones as there's no staff, the line can easily take 30-45 minutes of standing just to be told your prescription is still not ready.
The staffing issue is so bad I don't know why they even run this pharmacy. Either find more staffing or close it down, it's not a reasonable service in its current state.
Trust these other reviews. Canned responses from media managers does nothing to help the issue here.

Updated Review – Still One Star
Safeway Pharmacy replied to my original review asking me to “use the contact page” and include my phone number so someone could reach me. That would be great — except it’s impossible. When I try to follow their instructions, I end up on the Corporate Safeway website, where the only thing available is a mailing address. There’s no email, no phone contact form, and no way to actually include my phone number anywhere.
When I try to sign in to the pharmacy section to check my refills or request delivery, I enter my email or phone number, get the verification code, and then get stuck in the regular Safeway shopping site — never the pharmacy. There’s no way to reach anyone or access prescriptions. It’s 2025, and this system is completely broken.
Today, I waited two and a half hours for my prescriptions, and one still wasn’t filled, even though my doctor sent it in two weeks ago. I finally gave up and left. Halfway down the block, I got a text saying it was ready. I would have turned around, but there were 25 people in line behind me, and I wasn’t about to wait another two and a half hours when I already don’t feel well.
The pharmacy staff themselves are wonderful people — polite, hardworking, and doing their best — but they are severely understaffed and unsupported. Safeway needs to take accountability and stop hiding behind corporate PR responses.
Reliable Staff, Chaotic System
Safeway Pharmacy has been my go-to for quite a while, but lately, I’m on the fence about staying. The staff themselves are truly five-star — friendly, professional, and always doing their best under pressure. Unfortunately, they’re clearly understaffed, and it shows. The phone is rarely answered, the lines stretch endlessly, and by the time you finally get to the counter, you might still be waiting to find out if your prescription is even ready.
The website and app experience? Let’s just say “nightmare” is putting it kindly. Trying to reach anyone by phone or confirm a refill feels like a test of patience — and sometimes sanity. The text notifications come through only sometimes, leaving you guessing and hoping for the best.
All in all, Safeway Pharmacy has heart and hardworking people, but the system itself is tangled in chaos. I’m grateful for the employees who genuinely care — I just wish corporate would give them the staffing, tools, and technology they deserve.

I don’t care how great they may be when I finally get in there, the fact is that I have to go in there and wait in a line to find out if my prescription has been ordered by Mr Dr or not or what its status may be because they never answer their phone. Never! And I just switched from Walgreens. Time to look elsewhere again.

If you don’t mind waiting for a long time or making a trip for nothing, then this pharmacy might be fine for you. I’ve scheduled vaccine appointments here ahead of time several times over the past year, but when I arrived, they told me the vaccines were out of stock and needed to be ordered. I really don’t understand why they accept appointments if they don’t have the doses ready. This has happened to me twice. Even when the vaccine is available, I still end up waiting quite a while to check in and then wait again to actually get the shot, even though I already had a scheduled appointment time.
They also always seem short on staff. It usually takes a long time just to pick up prescriptions because the line moves slowly. And you can almost never reach them by phone, it just keeps ringing and then tells you to call another time.

Horrible having my RX go there. No one ever answers the phone and when you go in you are in line for an hour! I am switching pharmacies I cannot spend hours every month when I need my refill. I do not get why they will not get more staff!!!

This place really needs more staffing. I don't know who heck is the district manager or the store manager but obviously you all don't know how to run a business. Winter is the busiest season and you only have a couple people working. Is like saying holiday season is here and the post office only have two mail man shorting mail. It doesn't matter what time you come the like is pretty long and I never seen more then 3 people working.
The customer service is nice and the people that work there are super nice. However, not enough man power to get things done.
Please get some more people to help.

It's great if you don't have to call in for a prescription. But it's been 4 days of calling at different times and you can't get ahold of anyone if you need something. The lines have gotten terrible and the service is downhill. Please how more help! People need their meds!!!

I have been working on getting my medication transferred and filled for three weeks. I began this process on 09/04/2025. I was told it was filled three days ago on 09/23/25. I opted to pay for same day delivery before the cut off time. I write this as of today 09/25/25. I have not received my medication and the app does not provide a tracking number for me to find the status. The app did say the delivery was in process two days ago and now it does not have any update like delivered. But, what i do know is based on the app it looks like the order was filled since i cannot request a refill at this time. I've made many attempts over three weeks to check on the status of my transfer and fulfillment. I've called almost every business day atleast one to two times (only because no one answers so i try at a different time) and have only gotten to speak with someone once on 09/05/2025 when i began the process. My inquiry is simply how can i track my package as this is not provided. What courier services does the store use. How can i verify when, or if it was sent to the correct address. ALL questions that could be answered over the phone and not available in the app/website. Therefore, I have to call and speak with someone. I opted for delivery as i am currently not able to pick up the medication. I know that coming in at this point is the only opportunity to speak to someone so that i can get these questions answered. But, has anyone given thought for the population that can't? Is this the ONLY way to get questions answered? While being busy is great for business, I'm concerned which appropriate ways or efforts they are making to communicate to their customers and keep them updated.
I work in healthcare and understand the need for adequate staffing and workflows to meet the needs of your servicing population. I only mention this for readers perspective and my insight. I spoke with the customer service desk at the store itself (not the pharmacy) and I was told that they receive like 50 calls (I assume this is a guestimate) a day which people complain that they do not pick up their phone or about other issues with the pharmacy. So it turns out that that my issue is not a single case argument. But the current culture and service. Honestly, this is very unacceptable as this is medication! Very well could be life dependent for others in a similar situation. End of story. I'm taking the time and effort to warn anyone else interested in using their service. I highly recommend elsewhere as a medical professional. I recommend you find some place who has better understanding of patient care and demand. My warning is not entirely on the tracking process. There has been no communication since i started this process, while i am versed with this process (which should not have taken this long) many are not. I can only advocate for myself but there seems to be limited resources at this particular site.
Truly one of the worst experiences I've ever had in my lifetime personally or professionally.

Customer service is awful. They never answer their phone calls (I think they unplugged the phone). It takes forever to fill up the prescription way past the date it’s supposed to be done. Horrible.

My recent visit to this particular, Safeway pharmacy was unfortunately a terrible one. I came up to the pharmacy yesterday Tuesday, 15 September to pick up my medicine. My doctor forwarded the prescription to the pharmacy marked URGENT. I arrived at the pharmacy greeted by a woman named Amy and she proceeded to tell me that she forgot to fill the prescription. This was at a little after 6:30 before the store would be closing at 7 PM. Out of the kindness of my Heart I suggested that I come in today, today being September 16. I come in today to pick up my prescriptions and she tells me that only one is ready and there is a problem with the other. She tells me to step aside and the pharmacist in the back does a real nice job of filling it very fast. When I went to receive the medicine from Amy, there was no apology whatsoever, and it appeared that she never even remembered who I was (the job is a bit stressful on her I’m guessing). She acted very cold and rude to me At the end, when all I was trying to do was receive my medicine in a timely manner. I’m brand new to Oregon and this was a horrible experience.

Just plain awful. Staffs are inefficient. Everyone of them. Takes about 10min to help one person and cause long lines.

Pharmacy staff have been extremely helpful. Prescriptions and vaccinations are completed with ease. Pharmacist has gone above and beyond on more than one occasion. Excellent work all around.
