I'm really not trashing on this specific location, but they were in the middle of a complete uHaul fiasco.
On Wed, 3/27 I attempted to reserve a one-way car trailer in OR to pull our car behind an RV we were planning on buying over the weekend. The uHaul website would not load properly, so I called cust. service (where the recorded message tells you to use the website for faster service). I discussed my needs with the rep and they told me the uHaul closest to where I was going to be needing it did not have the trailer, but that I had to pay and commit to renting it anyway to start the process, and then a rep. would find me one and call. By Fri afternoon I had not received a call, and no reservation was showing on my uHaul App. I again attempted to call cust. service, but the wait time was going to be over an hour to get a rep, so I made another attempt to rent the trailer I needed via the website. I was successful in getting the site to load this time, so using their map function, was able to find an available trailer along our route. The location wasn't ideal, but it was doable.
The next thing I know, Friday night, I get a confirmation email for the original trailer reservation, but in a city 50 miles in the opposite direction we were traveling. I double checked my uHaul app on my phone, and the trailer I reserved was still showing as reserved at the U-Haul in SW Portland. So Mon 9 am I again called cust. service. The rep. confirmed I had 2 trailers reserved in 2 different cities. The rep. cancelled the reservation for the location that was out of our way, and verified that the trailer was available and reserved in SW Portland.
We were on a tight schedule. We showed up 30 min. early to U-Haul SW Portland. I was helped by a very nice representative who did nothing wrong, but we'll get back to that in a minute. The RV passed the visual inspection as a tow vehicle, and the trailer was hooked up. When testing the lights, the right rear turn/brake light did not function. After confirming the problem was with the trailer, and not our RV, the rep made a call to maintenance who was not on site, and we went off to lunch.
While at lunch, the rep from SW Portland called and said maint. would not be available to come and check the trailer, and that he was working with dispatch to find a close by trailer. About 10 min after that, I received a text that a trailer had been reserved about 20 miles the wrong direction in Hubbard, OR, but at least one had been found (we thought). We finished lunch, retrieved the RV, and headed out.
When we got to U-Haul Hubbard, we were told there was no trailer available. We again called SW Portland, who tried again to find a trailer, but were told there were none.
Ok, so stuff happens. But here's the real rub.. 1.Why did the very first reservation get so screwed up? 2. Why wasn't the trailer I reserved already checked for safety? 3. Why don't they have a tech on site that can check a loose wire on a trailer. 4. There were FOUR other car trailers sitting there in SW Portland, but due to some REDICULOUS corporate rule, trailers designated for local use can't be swapped out for a one-way trip (really, they could have just replaced the local trailer with the one with the non-functioning light, fixed the light, and called it a day). 5. There really was a trailer in Hubbard, but it was reserved for the next day to go to Arizona. Why couldn't they give me that one, fix the one with the malfunctioning light, and have it ready for the AZ people? 6. 40 extra miles in an RV is 4 gallons of fuel, and an hour of wasted time. Oh, and their solution was again to send us south to Eugene when we were traveling North. As for other solutions that were available, I offered to buy a set of magnetic lights so I could still legally use the trailer, but corporate wouldn't allow that either. So basically, I know stuff happens. But there were solutions available but nonsensical corporate rules were

Had great attentive and service from the owner and his crew. Got me squared away with a complicated last minute reservation and helped troubleshoot an issue with the brake lights on my truck. Would recommend to anyone.
