Plato's Closet Allentown is a buy-and-sell store for secondhand clothing and accessories. The store has a large selection of name brand items, which are well organized and laid out, though it can feel a little cramped. Prices are considered great and much cheaper than retail, though shoppers note it is priced higher than a typical thrift store like Goodwill.
The experience of selling items here is described as very hit or miss. The process is simple and can be quick, often taking 10 to 45 minutes. Sellers are paid approximately one-third of the price the store will sell the item for. However, the buyers are very specific and selective about what they accept, often rejecting items from cheaper brands even if in good condition. Payouts can be low, so sellers advise not to expect much. It is suggested as a good way to clean out a closet for a few dollars on items you would otherwise donate.
Customer service experiences vary widely. Some reviews report very nice, friendly, cute, and accommodating staff who provide great service. Other reviews state the staff can lack hospitality, that the counter area is chaotic, and that customer service is not always the best.
