About Peter Schreiber House

The Peter Schreiber House is an excellent example of a Harmonist brick house. It was only one of two houses originally on this block - in a prominent location adjacent to the Great House - symbolic of the importance of the first occupant, Peter Schreiber. He oversaw the woolen mill and textile buildings on the block. The house first evolved with the construction of an 1830s timber-framed two-story shed addition, and then with a full porch on the west side during the Victorian period. As the society was dissolved this block was the last one sold by the society. In early Ambridge the house was first sold to the Larson family who radically raised the shed roof with a balloon-frame second story and full attic, and lastly a two-story bay window.
