It was definitely a blast from the past when you first walk in. I felt a gust of nostalgia, as if I was standing in my great grandmother's house. I almost cried! We had a wonderful time. I highly recommend the stay. Clean house with lots of charm!

Last year, my wife and I stayed at the Happy Days Hideaway behind this house, and thought it was amazing. This year, we graduated to the Good Ol' Days House. And "graduated" is an appropriate word. We are both from Belle Vernon, and had scheduled this house for the weekend of our class reunion. We were going to share the cost with two other out-of-town couples. When the reunion was cancelled due to Covid, we talked about it and decided to keep our reservation and come into town anyway - one of the best decisions we've ever made. Nobody was traveling from out of town, so we invited some local classmates and decided to have a mini reunion right there at the house. We arrived Friday, and spent the better part of 2-3 hours reminiscing and going through the items and artifacts that make this house so special. It was especially amazing for us, as we knew many of the people/places represented in the house, both of us having grown up within four miles.. For instance, my wife's grandfather was the principal at the local high school back in the 30's. She found a diploma on the wall that he had signed. One classmate was looking around on Saturday and found a class picture from his father's graduating class. His father had passed away when he was just 13, so that was a poignant moment. One of the yearbooks on the coffee table featured eight kids who grew up on my street. But even without the local connection, you will find things here that will bring the past to life. I will guarantee that you will find something in each room that your grandparents owned - no matter where you grew up. It's such a comfortable feeling. Our mini-reunion couldn't have been better. Let's face it - reunions are about remembering the past, and the Good Ol' Days house was the penultimate stage to do so. Our full reunion is expected to be scheduled next summer, and my wife and I are already planning on booking it again the moment the reunion committee releases the date!

A blast from the past! We spent a weekend here and all I can say is that this home reminded me of my Italian side, from 50 years ago, my Grandmother's homes and my Aunts and Uncle's home. If you grew up that way, you will know as soon as you go through the door. Nostalgia here to the max! A true labor of love. You will really enjoy this trip down memory lane, the town is wonderful with very friendly folks. Very very nice.

My wife and I were in town for my family reunion, and I'd remembered seeing this place online. It had stood out to me because we're both from Belle Vernon. So it was like a homecoming. After I booked, I'd mentioned to Melanie that we were natives, and were looking forward to staying. When we arrived, sitting on the kitchen table was a box of baked goodies from Valdiserri’s Bakery*. Valdiserri’s is a Belle Vernon institution, around since 1903, and it's one of the best bakeries I've been to in years of travels. What a phenomenal, unexpected, unnecessary, and very much appreciated gesture! We stayed in the Happy Days Hideaway, the former hair salon in the back of the house. The entire place probably measures 12'x40', but the memories packed in there will fill every corner of your mind.In the kitchen, there is a small table, coffee maker, refrigerator, and stove, and I swear - somehow Melanie was able to get every single knick-knack that my grandmother had in her own kitchen. From the paper towel/aluminum foil/wax paper dispenser to the hand mixer to the 1957 calendar on the wall, it immediately took me back. Both my wife and I remarked that it was like staying at Grandma's house. The bedroom area was true-to-period, with exactly the kind of curtains and bedspread that all of our grandparents had. There was a vinyl record player with Frankie Valle queued up, and several LPs in the cabinet, including Dean Martin and the original soundtrack to West Side Story. The bathroom was spacious, and somewhat modern, with a rainfall shower head, and plush towels. The bathroom is a tip of the hat to the old salon, with an abundance of hair care products from the 50's in a display. It's all so very cool. For as much fun as this place is, what impressed me the most was the cleanliness. Sparkly clean. Grandma would be proud. We travel back to Western PA a few times a year, and while we often stay in Pittsburgh, if we're ever back in the Mon Valley, this will be my first choice in accommodations - hopefully next time in the main house. I'd give it six stars if I could.*Back to Valdiserri’s. Try it. You won't be sorry. It's just four blocks up the street on Broad Avenue.
