About Detweiler Park
Detweiler Park is the largest park managed by the Dauphin County Parks & Recreation Department, featuring over 7 miles of well-maintained trails. This 411-acre park, partially donated by the Detweiler family in 2016, offers a diverse range of ecosystems, including gardens, meadows, and mature forests. Visitors can frequently spot deer and a variety of birds such as turkeys, hawks, woodpeckers, and bluebirds. The trails are open from dawn to dusk and are well-marked, providing options for all hiking levels. While most trails are shaded and pleasant, there is a challenging mile up a ridge that can be avoided for a smoother experience. Many visitors appreciate the peaceful atmosphere, making it a popular spot for weekly walks and dog outings. Amenities include a port-a-potty at the parking lot. Overall, Detweiler Park is a beautiful and relaxing destination for nature lovers and hikers alike, conveniently located near Harrisburg.
