Jefferson Hospital is one of the more lax and apathetic medical locations I’ve come across in recent years. Due to random issues stemming from a medication reaction, btw I had to diagnose that reaction, I had the “privilege” of going here several times over the past couple of months. In almost each case there were tech availability issues and the staff were mostly subpar in attitude, approach, “bedside manner”, diagnostic consideration, and demeanor. For example: During one episode, after they officially discharged me, I got sick in the room and willed myself to crawl from the trash can to the speaker to call for help. The staff nurses came in, and literally just stared at me on the floor. I had to firmly tell them I needed help standing back up since I couldn’t. Apparently my position inconvenienced them and “threw them off balance” (according to the nurse who expressed as such to me) by getting sick though discharged. Freaking sorry that you can’t handle what you’re trained for and paid to do.The only doctor who was genuinely worth his salt there is Dr. Sullivan. If you’re lucky enough to meet this man, just know that he does take an interest in your condition. He comforted my wife and talked with her about my symptoms when I couldn’t speak. The techs are awesome there too I might add, and are some of the best people in the world to interact with. That is the only reason this hospital gets a 2 star rating.Very recently I went in again for a random pain that cropped up a few days ago proximate to a concern area I’ve had for a few years. Pain is still impacting me as of now despite the PA’s stated OTC medicinal approach. They “diagnosed” me without evidence or scans for something that I historically do not have with zero consideration for the concern area as a potential cause. The PA even confirmed in my presence that, based on feel, my concern point was present. Despite that empirical evidence though, I have “X” they stated. Quite literally a response I would have expected from MedExpress - which is why I went to Jefferson instead (maybe I should have pursued the latter option in hindsight).Anyways, I had previously asked them for a reanalysis of a scan to see if that concern point was present and overlooked, and they randomly offered (without prompting actually) to look into that request while I was there - then proceeded to quote the original scan notes in MyChart instead of conducting a reanalysis. When confronted about this I was told “oh we don’t have reading radiologists here to do what you’re asking”.Well then what the heck do you people have, and why would you offer to re-review the scan if no qualified professional is around to conduct a thorough and objective re-analysis? Between no scanning tech availability end of December, lack of foresight to conduct ultrasounds and stress tests where definitely appropriate (AHN cardiologist was astounded they didn’t pursue such screening), and no reading radiologists on hand or “available”, I swear that the PA’s and doctors at Jefferson take sadistic delight in roadblocking you from meaningful diagnostics, discourse, and health-concern related inquiries. Or the staff are so self-focused and jaded that they either don’t care (or think you’re just stupid). If my pain does correlate to my concern point, I wonder if I can pursue Jefferson or AHN for medical negligence - especially if what I surmise is the issue has expanded. Is this apathy a symptom of the medical community at large? Maybe. But the experiences we’ve had up at UPMC are far better than any I’ve had at Jefferson (barring my interactions with Dr. S and the techs there). If you value your health and that of your loved ones, go elsewhere. We considered going here for child delivery, but after these experiences I would not trust this institution to handle either my wife’s or new child’s life with the care and foresight I expect a medical facility to offer.

The care & nurses are great but having to go thru security is the most annoying process. First they want to know who r u visiting, what room. Two different people ask the same question. Then u go to security gaurd & he asks the same questions. Then they want to scan ur divers license. Every day. I have dealt with mercy and AGH & didn't have to put up with this. All they say is its because of covid. Some day they won't be able to use that excuse. No need for this level of security. Put in metal detectors & be done

The ER staff was amazing. Incredibly caring and comforting when I was in the worst pain of my life. I didn't have to wait very long either time I was there and felt like I was in good hands the entire time.

I was brought in with severe abdominal pains, and I was ignored and refused services by Dr. Jason Wong. I was told to come back if the pains got worse, which he said, "I'm just going to discharge you". I sat there for 3.5 hours to be ignored and in pain, just to be sent home. Run from this hospital.

First let me say that the nurses in the surgery center are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING as is my urologist. I had already had a 2cm staghorn kidney stone removed and had come back for the 2nd one, also a 2cm staghorn stone, to be removed. Everyone KNOWS that kidney stones cause issues with electrolyte imbalances, especially potassium for whatever reason. So I’m prepped and ready to go when the anesthesiologist comes over to ask me why I’m getting a certain medication which I explained. Not 10 minutes later she returns to say she’s refusing to do my surgery due to my potassium level. Now my potassium level was REALLY low but you’d think a potassium level of 2.4 would warrant a hospital stay. At least that’s what I learned as n LPN!!!! So I was sent home, told to call my PCP for a potassium supplement and 2 provisional days to have my VERY PAINFUL STONE N STENT TO BE REMOVED AND REPLACED!!!!! Are u freakin’ kidding me!?!? One of the most painful conditions a person can have and this is the care I’m getting!?!? I pay for my health care and I’m telling you all right now that I’m switching back to UPMC!!!! Forbes is even worse. I’ve never been treated as sub human as I have at these AHN hospitals. I don’t know how some of these people are even allowed to practice medicine. I was so dry from dehydration and I showed them this as my tongue was like sand paper. After this I was left sitting there until my husband flagged down an AMAZING nurse named Angela who got me a drink and helped get me out of the hospital so I could go home as I was left laying there. It’s a shame that such amazing and caring people have to work with people who just could care less. If it wasn’t for Angela RN, id have given this experience 0 stars. I now have 2 “provisional” dates to get this last painful freaking stone and stent out. But who knows if I’ll get the same anesthesiologist and what excuse she’ll come up with this time. I just can’t wait to get this over with so I can get away from AHN. It’s a shame that these are the hospitals that such a good health insurance like Highmark has to deal with. I’m less than impressed

The nursing staff is wildly unprofessional here. It also doesn't seem the cleanest here. It's disheartening for anyone who truly may need emergency care. Talking loud and badly about patients in ear shot of other patients. I don't think I would ever come back here after just overhearing them speak about their patients tonight. Everyone vents about their job especially working with the public, but it can wait til you're off work or at least in a space where the patients can't hear what you're saying. Yikes ?

I would give this place negative stars if I could. I went in with a severely broken leg and ankle. I was basically ignored the whole time I was there, and then sent home with instructions to make my own arrangements to see an orthopedic specialist. Every other medical professional I saw after that was in complete disbelief that I had been discharged with the injury I had. I ended up needing two surgeries and being in the hospital for five days, after being sent home in a terrible splint, with no medication, and no help with follow up care. I had to make about five calls after I was discharged just to get a prescription called into a local pharmacy. While I was there, I tried to use the bathroom and there was blood splattered all over it. I informed the staff and they just said “oh yeah, that was that guy down the hall.” Do not go here, even for something basic like a broken bone, it is better to drive farther to get actual medical care.
