There are many factors of which to judge a business, but the bottom line is, would you go back? In this case, I would not. Not because the rates weren't good for my loan, or they delayed closing, or that the bank representative I worked with wasn't helpful, it was due to putting irrational bank policy before their clients and their community. Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank would not allow me to close the loan via a mail-out closing because they claimed they have a policy against it. When asked for their policy in writing, I never received it. Being in the real estate industry for almost 23 years, mail-out closings are very common and I've never seen a lender say it's against policy. Even after I appealed to the bank president, Craig Zurn, he insisted on an in-person closing (even after I mentioned that I may have been exposed to Covid!) Mail-out closings allow out of state clients to close a transaction without having to unnecessarily travel to the location of the home. That's why there are notaries. In the COVID environment that we are in, businesses are increasingly sensitive and supportive to online measures that will reduce the transmission of Covid-19 and promote the health and safety of their communities. It's unfortunate that a bank with the word "neighborhood" in their name doesn't support smart and responsible business practices that puts neighborhood before bank practice.

If I could give this business no stars I would. This has to be one of the worse banks I have ever had to deal with. The worse part is, this isn't even my bank! My fiancé has been using this bank for 5 years and I wish he would switch. Their customer service is horrible. When he first went in to sign up for a checking account, the women in the lansford branch looked at us like we didn't belong in there. The second encounter I had with them is when I had to deposit money in his account, the women in the lehighton Branch was so nasty and giving me a hard time because I was not my fiancé. I was depositing money, I could understand if I was withdrawing. The third incident was when we were going to use that bank to obtain a mortgage, even though I refused against it, my fiancé wanted to see if they would work with him since he was such a long time banker there. The lady in the Lansford office that deals with the mortgages brought us into the office, gave us a paper application and told us to fill it out and bring it back. HOW UNPROFESSIOANL! She did not help us at all. The last and final time I will ever deal with this bank is I had my eye on a foreclosure property that they owned( I cringed at the thought of knowing this). I contacted Mary Harvey on multiple occasions, left plenty of voicemails, and never received a call back. When I finally was able to speak with her, she took my name and number and promised a call from a realtor, which to no surprise a call never came. I have dealt with this bank on multiple occasions for multiple reasons, and every single one of them was horrible.
